The question is not "when" but how to you think this could ever happen ...

to be or not to be in the EU that's still the question...

.. or rather now that the UK is de jure not a member of the EU anymore, if it will not de facto be bound by the very same rules and constraints as before.

After all, our economies are still deeply integrated, our geopolitical interests are still the same and we are still in close geographical proximity.

Looks like no deal....the EU cannot afford to fold as it opens the door to other members potentially leaving......Boris can't fold because the ERG will crucify him. So better we all suffer the economic shock of this farce.

to me it looks like theatricals before the deal As this podcast shows, we have now a pretty balanced deal.

By balanced I mean "which takes into account the UK is 1/6 of the size of the EU".

There's one thing for sure what we have seen and heard from the EU in the past 4 or 5 years cannot affect the original decision to leave, nobody I know that voted leave have no regrets of their decision to leave, in fact it has just reinforced that decision. The EU will reap what they sow.

well this is fine, in France a lot of people were actually ready to pay the UK so that the country leaves ????

not only did the UK did it, but it did it demonstrating how damaging it is... so that there are no anymore credible politicians in Europe advocating for their country to leave the EU.

the "stronger together" message got through thanks to you ????

We'll see, after we've been given our wings and are free from the EU chains holding us back. Now is not the time to judge 'how damaging it is'.

When we succeed would you like to eat your words in a nice croissant or a baguette? ????

Doesn't seem to be balanced here regarding fishing

The Frenchman said a seven-year transition period, during which the generous access enjoyed by EU trawlermen to UK waters would be gradually phased down.

He also proposed boosting the bloc’s previous offer to increase fishing quotas for British vessels in our waters.

Mr Barnier said between 22 and 23 percent of the value of fish caught in UK waters should be returned to Britain.

Maybe the Uk should offer the EU between 22 and 23 % fishing quota down  from last week offer of 40% I sure the EU will say that a fair and balanced deal

We will see how the stronger together message is standing up next year if there is no EU access to UK waters for fishing

Already we have seen the French fisherman state French waters for French  only No Dutch, Ireland has the same concern about its waters

even if there is a deal, how long before Boris pay the dues he owes to the EU, that alone should take another 20 years of negotiation ????

some interesting comments from the BBC website:

"It does seem a bit absurd that the EU expect unfettered access to another countries territorial waters. No other country allows this. If you want the fish from our waters, buy them from our catch. A bit like when we want wine from France - we buy it rather than driving over to France and helping ourselves to the vineyards crop. It works both ways."

"Water moves as do fish!
How do you propose to keep the waters and fish static?"

"On BBC news this morning.
The EU want to limit the UK's level of state aid, and have said that the member EU states will abide buy the same rules...
… except if the subsidy come directly from Brussels it should be exempt to this limit.
How in any light can anyone deliver this with a straight face and then claim they are operating a level playing field? This is why talks are stalling."

a few more for the road:

"We started the year with easiest deal in history, sunny uplands and ending it with port blockages, unicef feeding our kids and a collapsed economy where no deal (a million to one disaster or negotiation by Johnson’s own admission) is being rebranded as Australia deal to fool the gullible

Not going too well is it?"

"17.4 million Lievers must now be either:
1. Realising how silly they were in being conned by and lied to by Farage and co.
2. Becoming ever more dissonant, desperately seeking to defend their indefensible, disastrous choice, to cut the UK's ties with the world's wealthiest, nearest and most powerful trading partnerships."

"More the first time it's been quite so obvious France and Germany are using the EC as a political shield - if it goes well, they'll take the credit, if it goes badly they'll let the Commission bureaucracy take the blame - hence the reason the Commission has been playing for no deal from day one, no upside to them in a 'pretty good' or 'win-win' deal."

I know it's the Brexiter's dream : that everybody wants to leave, but why it doesn't happen ?

Well if you have to ask you have no idea and I wonder if you are British or just another foreigner, who knows what is best for the people who had a democratic referendum.

We can pay them in fish. Old and smelly ones. That is all they deserve.

I wonder when the EU will give the UK it share back from the buildings and projects it has paid for for over the years. After all it is a divorce deal isn't it, so where is our share.

That's great news. So why are they threatening to blockade everywhere like little children. What the French say nobody takes serious or believes.

The French are the most selfish nation in the EU and are always looking out for themselves. If its not the farmers in their tractors its the fishing fleets blocking something. Good look in France.

If it all goes horribly wrong the Uk will play the Turkish Card in about 20 years from now

Since Turkey started the EU Accession process it has received billions of euros from the EU taxpayer

Has the EU seen a return from that investment

tee hee there you have it - another brexiteer, and one who fancies himself as a brexit mouthpiece, has now stated that major job providers just don’t matter ????

The point being, predictably missed, is those leaders will have the figures, the logistics, the projections right in front of them and they don’t like what they see, you don’t think they would be bouncing up and down if they could see positives for their industries meaning riches for them ? you on the other hand have The Sun.

so onto jobs - who’s going to be providing them ? Because you know they provide taxes right ? and you know what taxes do right ? Take your time now ....

Thing is Brexiteers don't really think or come up with facts. Every time the people who studied for it and have the right numbers in front of them make a statement. Those with no facts but just feelings come to moan. Just like in the US there is a large portion of people who don't believe in facts but the lies of their leader.

No wonder the EU is now in turmoil with its own members and the increasing worry about the probability of more exits.

That's one approach.

Another one is :

The U.K. has left, the E.U. don't like that at all, so  at the moment the negotiations started  the E.U. intent is :

"You left, fine,

you want to do again business with us, fine,

here are our specific conditions only for you, as past member,

take it or leave it".

The E.U. don't really expect that the U.K. will simply accept these "particular" conditions.

If after all, they do, or partially, it is some kind of "sweet revenge" for the E.U..

The E.U. know if no deal, many difficulties may arise in the E.U., they know also that it will  be the case in the U.K..

My opinion :

the E.U. and the U.K. will manage after 31.12., sure at a price,

but for both with some satisfaction too.

The nation decides the politics, not them.

The people vote for what they should like.

The politicians interpret their wishes at their own wants and needs.

The final decision is in the hands of the politicians, and act accordingly.

The people is not always pleased with this, but they abide.

UK has left the EU, so a few of points you don't seem to understand perhaps because you are not British..

1. The EU now cannot use UK sovereign waters a fact.....

2. UK is not letting foreign EU folk walk into the UK without scrutiny a fact...

3. All you ever think about is cash ledgers, nothing else, because you purport to be an accountant, fact...

4. The UK voted to leave the EU for various reasons, you really should take that on board, as a non-Brit, fact..
