Govt considers implementing new law on communicable diseases in 2021

The government plans to implement a new law on communicable diseases to empower the disease control committee into new issuing measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 next year, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Tuesday.

 

He said this move was in response to criticism over the use of emergency decree, adding that Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam has checked the new act thoroughly.

 

"We believe that if the situation does not worsen, we will suspend the emergency decree and implement the new act after New Year holidays,” he said.

 

He said it was not necessary to launch additional measures during this time, adding that the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration has the situation under control.

 

He also said that people who have symptoms can take a free Covid-19 test at hospitals. "The ministry will get reimbursement from the National Health Security Office,” he added.

how is a law going to fight an infectious disease. What u need is good labs, doctors, scientists, technical staff , nursing staff etc/

A general law on "communicable diseases'" could be used, and abused, in the future for other diseases. The common cold is technically considered a communicable disease, as are many other illnesses that we don't think of as such. One more step toward totalitarianism.

Sounds like they need a law, you know, to make it legal, to do things that they'd normally need an Emergency Decree to do.

 

I'm surprised they don't already have the "power" and "authority" to do whatver it is this new law will allow?

Imagine if herpes ever got on the 'banned' list. Would kill half of Thai tourism in some way or another !

It's not the cost of the test to worry about, but the compulsory quarantine in hospital!
