The head of the Department of Land Transport said that around 30% of people who have booked to travel on buses out of Bangkok for New Year have cancelled their journeys.

It was thought that 150,000 people would travel per day on December 29th and 30th. This now looks as though it will be just 100,000.

The reason is the Covid-19 outbreak. Normal passenger transport is 70,000 per day.

The data came from bookings at Mo Chit, Ekkamai and the New Southern bus stations.

Especially affected is travel from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and border areas.

Those who have tickets need not worry about services, said Jirut Wisanjit saying there were no plans for social distancing between seats as yet.

A lot of people have cancelled their resort bookings up here. The wife sells fak hmong (yod mala) to two of the popular resorts and both have cancelled their orders this week due to cancellation of bookings. The daughter works in a smaller resort and they have gone from full to only two bookings.
