Is this animal cruelty?

Our dog Dorhu is 4 yo. Grew from a charming pup to a healthy and vigorous watchdog. Perhaps too vigorous, he acquired an STV from one of the soi bitches which developed into a groin tumor about 4 months ago. Surgery and chemo, 20,000 baht thank you. He healed up nicely, the tumor came back with a vengeance. Groin again, one behind his left eye, lump in his right cheek, small lumps all along his back. Could jump tall fences before, now can barely climb a stair. Yelps in pain if he gets touched in the wrong places.

I want to euthanase him immediately, to save him from further suffering. My GF and grand-daughter were persuaded this was best for him. Took him to a vet in Phan, who flatly refused. Has to be vomiting and half his current body weight before he will even consider it. Suggested more expensive chemo, if it didn't work the first time on a single tumor I can't see how it will do better after metastasis.

The vet gave him an anti-inflammatory shot. To me, that's like trying to put out a forest fire with a water pistol.

Is this a Buddhist thing, the taking of life? Are vets here trying to maximize their profit? What would you do?

My gf had a suffering dog put to sleep in CM.

Her mother did also in Khon Kaen.

I do not believe it is illegal, but some will not do it. I would try another Vet geez, put the poor dog out of its misery.

Good luck.

If his quality of life is poor, with no hope of improvement, then yes, I would put a dog to sleep.

There are several painless ways to do this, if the Vet won't help.

Please PM me.

Put it down out of mercy. Get a new one.

Poor wee fella.

Let him (not it) fall asleep peacefully.

Find a different veterinarian who can help you.

suggest he is  kept  inside  your own property and not free to roam if that was the case, i wouldnt let any of my dogs mix with street  dogs

Sorry to hear of the poor mutts suffering (and your anguish). As we all now know, he should be put to sleep. Unfortunately some vets here won't do it, either due to beliefs or profit reasons. Advise trying another vet.

A five foot fence was no barrier to him at all. Short of chaining him up all day, he was going to get out.

He's a male, when bitches are on heat dogs gather from miles around.

I've now found a vet who will be putting him to sleep on Wednesday.
