BANGKOK (NNT) - A Bangkok Business analyst claims that Thailand remains an attractive investment destination for many Chinese investors expecting the COVID-19 pandemic to be resolved, with the service sector and tech industry receiving the most attention.

Siam Commercial Bank’s (SCB) Economic Intelligence Center’s First Executive Vice President Yunyong Thaicharoen, has disclosed the center’s projection that Thailand will continue to be an attractive investment destination for international investors, particularly Chinese investors.

He said the U.S.-China trade conflict has forced businesses to relocate their production base from China, indicating that Thailand could benefit from its infrastructure preparedness, its location at the heart of ASEAN, continuous infrastructure development, investment promotion policies, and the government’s presence in international trade negotiations.

According to the center’s survey of 170 companies, more than two-thirds of medium to large Chinese companies located in China and Thailand are interested in expanding their investments in Thailand over the next 1-2 years, although 60% of these companies have never operated in Thailand before.

The survey has shown a shift in investment trends, from big investments in the industrial sector to smaller projects worth less than 500 million baht per project, mostly SMEs that wish to relocate their manufacturing bases, while the service sector and technology are the two most attractive fields investors are looking at, to expand their investment in Thailand.
