Popular Post webfact
Thailand to start COVID-19 vaccinations next month Picture: Daily News Thailand will start issuing COVID-19 vaccinations from next month, according to the Director-General of the Disease Control Department. Between February and April, 1 million people who are regarded as vulnerable or most at risk from the virus will be given the vaccination, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong said on Thursday. Among the people to be vaccinated first include 80,000 frontline healthcare workers and village volunteers, 20,000 disease control workers and 900,000 people aged 60 or over or those with pre-existing health conditions. Each person will be given two doses of the vaccination. Those located in areas deemed to be ‘high risk’, such as Samut Sakohon, Bangkok, Chonburi, Chantanburi, Trat and Rayong will be among the first recipients. The second phase of vaccinations will begin nationwide from May or June and will see 26 million people from vulnerable groups inoculated against the virus. The third phase of vaccinations will begin in early 2022 and will see 70% of the general population vaccinated so that herd immunity can be developed. Popular Post Natai Beach
Sensible decision, giving it to health workers first who are the highest risk of catching and spreading it, and people over 60 who are the highest risk of dying. I am happy to wait for my vaccine and have them vaccinated first. It will upset the anti vaxxer, anti Chinese crowd on this forum but it is a huge positive step to getting back to normal. I hope it is effective against the new UK highly infectious super covid mutant strain that has unfortunately now spread to Queensland and Perth in Australia. If it is effective I can see this nightmare being over by the end of the year. The economy needs it. 5 1 2 1

That's what concerns me as I'm living in Thailand, I can't see anyone in positions of authority in this country doing what's right for the good of the population and the world in general. 6 1

If so the country's pharmaceutical companies should be operating 24/7.

wasabi
I prefer the AZ vaccine over the Sinovac but Ukraine is buying millions of doses of Sinovac so if they roll out there vaccination program with minimal incidents I might consider Sinovac if it is the only choice.

LomSak27
Todays e mail, from May7th, yesterday. My parents got their forms to sign up for vaccinations, this month. Yes they are elderly. yet,... My brother's family will get theirs by mid february. They will have a follow up shot a month after the first inoculation. So it is cranking right along. It would be nice if Thailand had a greater sense of urgency. 1 1 2

It has already been stated in the UK that the only choice is take it or leave it, and as it will be free to the Thai population I suspect the same will apply. However those that have to pay should be in a different position, as usual a question of wait and see what transpires. As a registered patient receiving regular treatment for a heart condition I am hoping to get an offer from the hospital but would also be a bit hesitant with Sinovac. The Pfizer vaccine from China would be a different matter.

Spilornis
AZ trials showed 60% prevention but over 90% prevention of severe case. (The lo/hi dose is not being used. It hit 90% prevention thus allowing AZ to claimand average of 70%) If I was in Thailand I would seriously consider the Sinovac which has just released its Brazilian results (an enormous trial) showing 78% effectiveness. TBH AZ has been all over the place with its results and public communication. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-brazil-sinovac/sinovac-vaccine-shows-78-efficacy-in-brazilian-trial-details-sparse-idUSKBN29C1VZ

Natai, your comment isn't actually accurate mate.. As you put it ''new UK highly infectious super covid mutant strain'' This strain wasn't born from the UK, it was found/discovered when people were being tested. It came from another country. This strain is also not new. It is still the same with the exception it spreads faster - no new symptoms. Calling it a super covid mutant strain simply confuses perception to many people, such a thing that everyone is trying to avoid. Too many people these days are hell bent on causing un warranted panic and false reporting. Yes it has mutated, as most viruses do. Even the common cold virus (coronavirus) mutates all the time, the Flu virus (coronavirus) mutates all the time hence why flu vaccines are adapted all the time. The South African strain has been shown to be a more transmissible variant. Different strains are now showing up in many countries all over the world, why?? Due to people still travelling around internationally without getting a negative RT-PCR test prior to flying. Fortunately UK border control has indicated this will now become the new protocol if you want to travel. This should have happened a long time ago. 5

MJ Patts
The only other option to non-Thais is to pay privately for it.... Like everything else we end up doing. Me personally, if don't get it in UK, then if the chance arises, I would opt to get privately.

thailand49
I'm waiting! I'll take the one that the government leaders puts a stamp of endorsement so I can leave and come back without all the restrictions! That includes the Chinese one which I don't trust I'll wait it being Thailand I don't expect it to be free for Expats even the Chinese one. Now who in government is going to stand tall have some balls and set a example and get the Chinese one? ????
