Crime Police Raid Six Northeastern Sites, Seize Over 2 Million Baht in Counterfeit Goods
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Authorities have carried out a crackdown on counterfeit goods in the northeastern region, raiding six targeted locations and seizing fake branded items worth more than 2 million baht. The operation, led by Police Major General Tasanapoom Jaruprach, Commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), was executed under the direction of Police Colonel Phuwadet Julkasewi, Superintendent of Subdivision 1. In collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), coordinated raids were conducted in the provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Sakon Nakhon. The raids were part of a proactive strategy to dismantle networks involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit trademarked goods and substandard merchandise. Authorities arrested five individuals on charges of “offering for sale or possessing for sale counterfeit trademarked goods.” Seized during the operation were a total of 1,785 counterfeit items, including household products, automotive parts, branded speakers, clothing, handbags and designer shoes. The total value of the seized goods is estimated to exceed 2 million baht. The crackdown followed a previous meeting on 30 April between the ECD and the Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Intellectual Property, during which urgent measures were discussed to combat intellectual property violations and the growing problem of counterfeit sales in the region. Following intelligence gathering, the investigation team identified several high-risk locations, including large commercial buildings and warehouse facilities in central urban areas and major wholesale markets. Search warrants were secured, leading to the successful coordinated operation. Officials say the majority of the counterfeit goods bore trademarks of internationally recognised brands and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the distribution network. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting intellectual property rights and have warned that further raids will follow as part of an ongoing effort to suppress counterfeit trade across the northeastern provinces.
