Biden swiftly begins sweeping away Trump's immigration barriers

Nope.  We'll still have 11 million illegals.  Probably even more.  They'll just be new ones.  Encouraged by yet another amnesty program that rewards the ones that crossed over illegally last year.

Ummm....it's a path way to citizenship for all of them.  Many who've been in the US for a very long time.

Fix the laws, don't bash a president trying to make things better.  It doesn't help.

Giving citizenship to 11 million immigrants who entered unlawfully will have the side-effect of almost entirely eliminating illegal immigrants within the US, something Trump never came close to achieving.

It's really over 20 million and soon they will be getting many free bees. Can America really afford this?

But yet again, this is typical Democrat politics. Campaign on the pandemic and economy, the working man and aid, jobs, Trump bad, and what's one of the first things they do on day one?

Immigration.

Fantastic!  Counters all the white supremacists and racist nuts in the GOP.  Love it!

If you want to discuss gerrymandering....look no farther than the GOP.  They are masters at this.

Sad you just like to bash rather than give the guy a chance.

The impact of immigrants on the US economy has been proven to be positive.  If they are there legally, they pay taxes, remember?  In an aging society, this is a good thing.

Yeah thats the problem. No matter what you think about the other party, they are americans and their beliefs and votes matter just as much as yours. Importing millions of voters to bolster your base is a major power grab and the goal is to disenfranchise fellow american voters.

THAT is not unity, and THAT is what drives extremism.

Nobody is talking about legal immigrants. The conversation in this thread and in the OP and from Biden is regarding ILLEGAL aliens.

open borders is a big gamble for the Democrats.

Please point to Democrats immigration policy that has declared 'open borders". The claim is a myth created by the prior trump administration with messaging primarily created from white supremist ideology by a senior adviser to trump, Stephen Miller. Yes, that's correct, the prior president of the USA had a White Supremacist as a senior adviser on immigration policy.

On the matter of 'illegals' in the USA it might be worth your time for some further research. As a starter, from the Brooking Institute, a highly regarded research organisation...

In contrast to the President Trump’s rhetoric about building a wall at the Mexican border, illegal migration has shifted since 2010 from border-crossing to visa overstays—the latter share has been greater than border crossings since 2010. The Center for Migration Studies estimates that in 2016, 62% of the undocumented were here because they overstayed their visas versus 38% who crossed the border illegally.

Yes, hard to pin down the exact number but, even at the high-end estimate 30 million, that is still less than one illegal migrant per 12 citizens, so, easily affordable if you simply print more money.

Not only by any means. Biden's executive orders revoking Trump's Muslim countries travel ban and relating to the DACA program involved people who wanted to enter the U.S. legally by visas (Muslim countries) or already had temporary legal status (DACA participants).

From the OP news report:

"The executive actions signed at a ceremony at the White House included immediately lifting a travel ban on 13 mostly Muslim-majority and African countries...

Biden also signed a memorandum directing the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. attorney general to preserve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects migrants who came to the country as children from deportation..."

A big part of illegal immigrants are people fleeing from violence, violence that happened because other countries interfered in those countries.

I would dare to say that most illegal immigrants are not criminal and are willing to work hard and most of them do.Who gives them work?People make profit out of them because they do jobs other people are refusing to do.

Do the right thing and give them the chance to become citizens.

Surely not so hard to parse that phrase?

Illegal migration is presented as a positive thing, an opportunity to help decent, hard-working people who have had a rough time. News stories or dramatic narratives involving possible downsides of illegal migration now appear far less often than before 2016. There is nothing surprising or controversial about that given the polarization of politics.

And now they are the making the same mistake Europe made when letting all do so called unchecked fugitives in. And pays a ver high price now. Lefties are ruining a great country at the cost of his citizens.

So you can't answer the question, and are just spouting nonsense like 'media has a strong pro immigration policy' and 'Democrats favour open borders'.

Most of the illegal aliens have limited education, English skills and the ability to earn money in the modern economy, yes some can acquire those skills but many won't. We don't need menial labor like we used to so what will they do? Not sure how they will survive in the US without significant government subsidization. If they were able to be productive, pay taxes and contribute to social security I'd feel more positive about their presence but as it is automation will be displacing many in the coming years. That looks set to accelerate with our friends south of the border coming in. This is not something I say out of fear of different races, white privilege or concern for myself. I am already wealthy and comfortable around diversity. But other than being a social justice warrior cause I'm not sure how smart blanket amnesty is.

FWIW I voted for Joe Biden and this does not come as a shock. I am delighted Trump is gone, but Biden is not necessarily the sharpest stick in the stack either.

The news from Europe is always on European countries getting more tough on migrants. Where did you get your news?

Quote

Not sure how they will survive in the US without significant government subsidization

1. Undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. don't get/aren't eligible for "significant government subsidization."

2. I don't think the Biden Admin. is proposing a "blanket amnesty" for undocumented immigrants in the country now, unless by that you mean his proposed EIGHT YEAR path toward possible legalization and citizenship, which would include:

"Under the legislation, those living in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2021, without legal status would have a five-year path to temporary legal status, or a green card, if they pass background checks, pay taxes and fulfill other basic requirements. From there, it’s a three-year path to naturalization, if they decide to pursue citizenship."

https://apnews.com/article/biden-8-year-citizenship-path-immigrants-4f2dffdb7a688e1e126a62a8acd59730

And all of that is just his legislative proposal, which has to be considered by a divided Congress. It's a starting point for a possible discussion.

If manage to sneak into the USA, and Democrats give you eventual citizenship for your actions, that is de-facto open borders.

Everyone knows this, including you, and the Democrats, and you all expect everyone else to buy your hogwash,

Mainstream democrats were arguing in congress about giving illegal aliens covid checks, and not only that, BACK PAYING them for the ones they missed.

Spare us. Please. They know they are trying to keep that potential block of Democrat votes pleased in the off chance they can get them in a voting booth.

Not true.  Their beliefs do matter to me.  If they believe the election was stolen, then we need to address why they think this.  That's actually well known.  Liars in the GOP, with the top one being Trump.  That's not unity and THAT is what drives division.

I did and found out that number of migrant arrivals in key European countries since 2015 have declined or have been steady since they got tougher. What's your point?

One distinct difference you forgot to think about with your kindergarten level deflection - all those arguing about politics and voting on politics are american citizens and taxpayers who did NOT illegally enter a country.

Wouldnt even have been a President Donald Trump if it wasn't for nutcase democrat proposals such as massive illegal alien amnesties, so when you sit there and think about extremism and division, just remember it did not start with Trump, and it is certainly gonna get worse if Biden doesn't start practicing what he preaches.

It was actually Reagan who signed a sweeping immigration bill which include amnesty for illegals which was shocking from the father of modern conservatives. Do Dems taking a page from Reagan.
