Popular Post webfact
Thai police don't know the law, admits RTP chief Picture: Sanook The chief of the Royal Thai Police has admitted that his own men do not know the law. He also made excuses for their slow response time and that training is required for the police. Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk and the met chief Phukpong Pongpetra went to Taling Chan in Bangkok where earlier in the week police shot dead a man who killed his own mother. The case has been trending virally on Twitter among Thai social media users with a hashtag that translates as #killed own mother Bang Phrom 54, after where the incident took place. Locals revealed on social media that the man had been reported time and time again as a clear and present danger to the family and community. Yet the police just said they were powerless to act because he had not done anything in front of them. Suwat said it would be investigated if this was a problem with individuals or the system. But he admitted that lower ranking officers didn't know the law, principally Article 24 that allows them to take the mentally ill off for evaluations. He promised training in dealing with situations and that this should be a lesson for a case that should not be repeated. He also excused officers who are meant to respond in three minutes saying situations in different areas often made this problematic. Regarding the shooting of the suspect by police he admitted this was not the way to resolve matters that should go to court. He said that they family could sue regarding this matter. Earlier reports suggested that the man had cut his mother's tongue out and run into the street with a Buddhist image over his head trying to get run over. Warning shots were allegedly fired. The man had a previous offence for armed robbery and had served jail time. Reporting on the case yesterday Sanook went with the caption: "Police don't know the law". Popular Post tingtong
Thai police fo know the law. Only they have learned a simplified version. 1. Be a police or military general and you can't do wrong what you can't get away with 2. If you are member of an influential family you can write your own law 3. If you have lots of money, most criminal act can be fixed with some wais. 4. A poor migrant workers can made to a convenient scapegoat. 5. Bribes can pay for everything fun. must strive to collect the most. Life is short. 6. Don't get caught in the wrong before reach at least point#3, preferable point#1, and you are safe from the law for the others. 3
Popular Post overherebc
I have always thought that perhaps a system where some officers could spend time with the UK police and actually go on patrol foot/car etc, bring back and pass on the experience. I certainly wouldn't advise USA cops as examples. 4 2 1
Popular Post ThailandRyan
Wait a minute, then what happened to all of the RTP officers the US Department of State trained through various Law Enforcement agencies in the US who came here on a contract and taught them. Did they sleep through the classes. I know that my former agency sent people over here to train them, however they do not use any of the tactics we taught them. Wonder if the same happens for the military that trains with the US soldiers during Cobra Gold. Use it only during training and then forget it afterwards..... 4

There it is, ladies and gentlemen. In plain English. The police themselves do not know the law of the land. I always knew it myself but many thanks to the CHIEF of the RTP for confirming my suspicions. Edited January 22, 2021 by Liverpoolfan

RJRS1301
Yet the police just said they were powerless to act because he had not done anything in front of them. So by this logic there is no crime, if the police did not act because nothing happened in front of them, then the prisons should be emptied, who did not carry out their deeds in front of police.
2530Ubon
It makes a pleasant & surprising change to see someone stand up and admit their mistakes. The usual 'modus operandi' is to form a fact finding committee that doesn't go anywhere. Hopefully he will be true to his word and enact changes. keith101
Immigration don't know the rules either they recently tried to charge for overstay during the amnesty for which i flatly refused and this was this December when trying to do a 90 day report in person , the young female officer kept trying and i kept rufusing telling her it was amnesty and no overstay eventually she just pushed my passport and form back at me not giving me 90 days so off to my agent and fixed no problem .

FarFlungFalang
Even lawyers and judges have to look up the law in books because they don't know the laws, the police are peace keepers and only refer potential law breakers to the courts for judgement.Anyone here claim to know "the law"? 1

In my GF's village, 4 women were fined 2500 baht each for the heinous crime of playing cards. Plain corruption and extortion. The police probably wonder why the average Thai regard them as thieves and criminals. I have yet to meet a Thai who has a good word to say on their behalf.

The type of training you speak of is physical not mental and it only happens for those serving in Bangkok. Outside of the capital it is keystone cops very little training majority of it is traffic mismanagement " this is Thailand " which means make it up as you go along.????

Educate yourself so as not to appear clueless of the bigger picture of the world of law enforcement.
