Rheumatologist in Phuket

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a rheumatologist in Phuket, who has preferable his own practice.

And has Mission hospital a Rheumatologist? I send them a mail, but never got any response.

Prefer not to go to the big private hospitals as they drain my medical budget to fast.

I use a Rheumatologist who was recommended by Bumrungrad in Bangkok as the best in Phuket. I used him for years through the Phuket International but found he had a private practice near Samkong intersection along the old road parallel to the bypass.  Between the second and third roads connected to bypass

Just curious. As Rheumatism is incurable, what does a Rheumatologist do?

Does he just prescribe drugs to treat the symptoms?

Yes, exactly. He also charts the regular blood tests to ensure the long term medication is not damaging internal organs. I have been consulting with Rheumatologists for more than 35 years after catching a virus in Brazil.

I saw a rheumatologist for many years at a Phuket private hospital. Based elsewhere, she visited for a week once a month, but abruptly disappeared when the hospital started cutting costs because of covid. As there was no communication nor alternate arrangements made by the hospital I have been basically treating myself using knowledge gained over the years.

I also have a related kidney disease which is stable and even improving. I now monitor both problems myself and plan to seek professional advice on a yearly basis only, or if blood tests or other indicators suggest a problem.

I get the blood tests done at clinics or other small hospitals, chart the results and buy my medications much cheaper from Bangkok. I'm currently weaning myself off a steroidal drug I have been taking for much too long.

I came to the conclusion several years ago that my specialists were simply looking at the tests, continuing the drug routines, and making new appointments every couple of months. If they were busy these consultations were sometimes rushed through in minutes.

The onset of covid and other events gave me the inspiration and confidence to become more independent about the monitoring and treatment of my diseases.  If you are reasonably astute and knowledgeable about your long term medical problems that are in a monitoring phase, it's not always necessary to pay for someone else to read your blood test results back to you.

I am not suggesting anyone self diagnose nor treat themselves during onset of these diseases, I'm talking about the long term monitoring of the condition when stable. I'm confident in my ability to do so without helping to finance a hospital with unnecessary visits every couple of months.

So, Mr. Isac Szwarc Brasil. You seem to be confused about something. Can you tell us what you are confused about?

A quick scan of his posts suggests he's confused about everything. All he does is ask questions about pretty well every aspect of life here.

I would suggest you go to Wachira hospital in Phuket town.

the hospital is government hospital and pretty busy but there are many specialized doctor there.
