Motorcycle ban on Angkor Thom pavements

Effective Tuesday, the Apsara Authority has banned motorcyclists from using the road pavements at Angkor Thom, so as not to damage the ancient wall structures. Apsara Authority spokesman Long Kosal said they had to impose the ban because the motorcyclists were damaging the terrain and the wall structures along the road.

He added that the pavements were meant for people, including tourists to walk and not for the use of motorcyclists. “We do not want the motorcyclists to cause more damage to the terrain and the wall structures along the roads,” he said, adding that they plan to put up barriers and plant trees to deter motorcyclists from using them.

For now, Kosal said they will create awareness and educate motorcyclists on the importance of adhering to the ban as they want to preserve all the ancient architectural heritage. In order to maintain, protect, preserve and enhance the global value of the walls of Angkor Thom, he added Khmer experts were studying how to prevent future damages.

just a quick correction:  you pave roads which why it's called pavement.  you pour concrete sidewalks which why they are called sidewalks.  very seldom do you pave sidewalks.  it happens on golf courses and some parks.

Before pushing an thread off topic you need to think your points through a lot more carefully...

Start by thinking when ‘concrete’ was invented and for how long roads have been roads, and pavements were sidewalks whatever the surface medium....

Clue: the roads in Angkor Thom have been around since the 12th century... although some have since been tarmac’ed !... oh.. and side walks and pavements can be constructed of tarmac !!!
