Traffic Police to deploy 5000 officers during opening of school term

The Traffic Police Division is deploying 5,000 traffic officers to expedite convenience during the opening of the school term.

The Commander of the Traffic Police Division, Pol Maj Gen Pramote Pathumwong (ปราโมช ปทุมวงศ์ ), reported on measures undertaken by his agency in expediting the convenience of motorists during the opening of the school term. The commander said that 5,000 traffic officers have been deployed in two shifts, from 5:00 to 14:00 and 14:00 to 22:00. Municipal officers have also volunteered their services on congested roads leading to 70 schools.

The Commander of the Traffic Police Division admitted that he was concerned over grade 1 elementary school students, whose parents may take longer than necessary to drive them to school. Pol Maj Gen Pramote asked parents to exercise caution when driving, especially 200-300 meters from school campus areas.

He affirmed that rainfall occurring at present will increase traffic congestion, due to preparations by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to pump out rain water.

5,000 traffic police deployed to facilitate commuters during school opening

Pol. Maj. Gen. Pramote Pathumwong, the Superintendent of Traffic Police, says more than 5,000 traffic police officers have been dispatched to facilitate the commuters after schools have reopened in Bangkok. He says they will work in two shifts, from 5 AM to 2 PM and from 2 PM to 10 PM.

However, the traffic police and the municipal officials have admitted that they are worried about the heavy traffic congestions in the routes around 70 schools. They are concerned that parents and guardians of first grade students will take too much time to deliver and take care of their children since they are not familiar with schools yet.

Officials have asked students’ parents and guardians to park their vehicles about 200 to 300 meters away from the schools to help prevent traffic jams during the evening.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Pramote affirms that rainfall will not affect the traffic condition in the capital because adequate water pumps have been prepared if flooding happens.

They need some sort of "fire-and-forget" capsules from the back seats of the BMWs and Mercedes and so forth.... :o

It can be a problem- you can get parents and drivers lining up 2 lanes deep or more outside the gate of a busy school. Having police there to help wave 'em on helps.

This Mr. Pathumwong guy, should send these 5000 officers on holiday in order for Bangkok to have a decent traffic. Everywhere these guys show up, the traffic gets crazy.

Of course no accidents are recorded, everybody is driving with 2km/h so a driver would run for Guiness Book if he/she would create an accident.
