A city and five districts in Prey Veng province were declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on Wednesday. The status has been given to Prey Veng city and the districts of Svay Antor, Kamchay Mear, Mesang, Ba Phnom, and Kampong Trabek.

 

The city has 5,219 houses and they have 5,056 toilets and 163 shared toilets. This was made possible by the joint efforts of Plan International Cambodia, the Prey Veng Provincial Department of Rural Development (PDRD) and all relevant stakeholders.

 

Plan International Cambodia’s country director Gwynneth Wong said that Prey Veng is one of their target provinces envisioned to become an ODF province aligning with the commitment of the National Action Plan of the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) 2019-2023. She said that a lot of effort, commitment and initiatives were taken by various stakeholders, donors, MRD, PDRD, NGOs and the community to make the ODF possible.

I can't speak for Prey Vang. But I can tell you that in Kathmandu, open defecation created the perfect vector of diseases riding on the city' breezes. Okay, here it comes: No sh*t!

Wow!  They're way ahead of San Francisco and other large Blue state cities in the sanitation department where public defecation has been on the rise for years.
Nice to see a third world country solving problems that the USA can't seem to be able to find a solution for.  Maybe big city US mayors can learn some lessons here.  Probably not though.

Toilets are so civilized. But if they flush direct to rivers - not so much.
