Jomtien or Phuket?

Featured Replies

Jomtien every time. Just nice to visit Phuket, Krabi and the islands twice a year for the change and pay the higher prices but then return back to Jomtien. Also proximity to Koh Samet and Koh Chang Islands with Jomtien,  just a car ride away.

  • Big mistake is to consider "settling".....why?   We have lived in Pattaya, Hua Hin, Bangkok, Korat..........don't settle......   Rent and move when you feel the urge for fresh fiel

  • Having lived in both places, I settled for Jomtien. I found Phuket noticeably more expensive with less to do except for Fantasea.

  • Personally I wouldn't retire in a place for its attractions, attractions get old. Phuket is beautiful but if you want nature and beauty there are a lot better options. Jomtien's main selling point is

What a ridiculous statement.

Well I said mostly not all. If you're a social person you will get tired of soi 7 and the tired looking beer grannies. Enjoy!

That's the reason I go to Jomtien.I am on a pension,on a bit of a budget,a bus ride to and from the airport, not so busy as Pattaya yet only a Baht bus ride away.Dongtang beach is clean and not rammed, the beach along beach road is there when you want to be around people. Not exactly exiting but at my age that's ok.I only visit for 4 to 7 weeks Jan/Feb/march.

Or go to Vietnam and live like a King and Queen, and still no stress.   ????

why are you saying its better?

For me, I wouldn't want to stay in Patong or Pattaya.  Both are too conjested.  In Phuket I would stay at one of the other beach communities.  For Pattaya I like Jomtien better.

I'm more familiar with the Pattaya area which is why I say Jomtien would be a better option.  It's a bit cheaper and definitely quieter yet Pattaya is still close by.  I've had friends that moved down to Bang Saray and love it.  Your 3000USD will go further in Jomtien than Phuket.

A lot will also depend what type of activities you like to do and how available they are in each location.
