Zostavax vaccine - where to get it in Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I need to get vaccinated with Zostavax.

I saw an ad from Pattaya City Hospital offering it for over 10.000 baht as a special offer ????, which seems totally bonkers, considering its regular price including the nurse (not subsidized) is about 4000 baht in Switzerland.

Are there better options for getting this vaccine in Pattaya?

That is indeed a ridiculous price. Can be gotten in Bangkok for about 4,500 - 5,000.

However it seems to be the norm in Pattaya as BPH is charging similiar once doctor fee etc taken into account.

If you have occasion to come to Bangkok these are the least expensive options:

https://www.thaitravelclinic.com/cost.html

https://www.medconsultasia.com/prices

The second place is cheaper, no add-ons and no appointment needed and not crowded.

I'd be going for the other one.

Is Shingrix THAT much better than Zostavax? Yes. Shingrix is 97% effective at preventing herpes zoster (shingles) in folks over 50 whereas the Zostavax shot is 50-64% effective in preventing shingles in those 50-70 and even lower for those over 70. Shingrix also stays effective for longer.

Shingrix is not available in Thailand. It's Zostavax or nothing.

Shingrix has not even been approved for use by the Thai FDA. Quite possible the manufacturer has not applied to register it here.

Which means it won't be available anytime i nthe near future.

50 - 50 chance of still getting it - I'll pass and thanks for the info..

However if you get it, will be less severe and that is very much worth it.

I got Shingles about a year or two  after getting Zostavax .  It was certainly unpleasant but nowhere near as bad, paid-wise,  as It could have been/is for many people.

receiving Zostavax does nto preclude later getting Shingrix if/when it becomes available here
