The Process from Australia

The application process has tightened up. Some who applied late last year were approved immediately but recent applications have required multiple applications. One friend applied 4 times before being approved. If your initial application is rejected (likely) then try again. Good Luck.

I can confirm that the rules have changed slightly as a Commonwealth Statutory Decleration in now required when applying.

I was knocked back on my first application and am waiting on a decision on my second.

I'm wanting to return to my wife and live in our own home and the required documents is endless. Once I get my escape ticket from Australia I will not be returning anytime soon.

Booked flight, booked 90 days insurance with Tune, and applied for pre-CoE today.

  • I got an exemption to leave late last year, provided no supporting documentation, simply stated on the form that I would be travelling for over 3 months, permission granted within 24 hours.

Last year the govt told everyone to get back to oz. Im so glad i ignored their advice.

Second application was successful and allowed to leave up to 15 June.

Hi everyone. I have all documents in hand and should be boarding the flight today. For those interested, main points are:

  • I was rejected from the Australian Government travel exemption on my first two attempts, when I selected "personal business" and then "compassionate" reasons. I ended up being successful on my third shot by choosing "normally a resident of a country other than Australia" - even though according to the criteria, I no longer had the required ratio (if you took the number of days I lived outside of Australia for the last 24 months. However, if you counted then from the date I returned to Australia at the beginning of the pandemic, I did fulfill the criteria).
  • I first applied for the CoE without my tourist VISA attached. They rejected it but the account remained active.
  • I sent off for my tourist VISA and it took six business days for it to be returned to me. When I received it, both the Passport number and my name were printed incorrectly on the VISA.
  • I re-applied for the CoE online immediately when I received my VISA - through Canberra, Australia and only 72 hours before my flight.
  • I received the CoE in less than a few hours. It seems they were waiting for me. My CoE stated I only needed to quarantine for 10 days.
  • I used Tune insurance and booked hotel quarantine for April 2 followed by a month's accommodation at a cheap countryside place. The hotel emailed me and told me that my quarantine had been shortened to 10 days and they would refund me the difference in cash at the end of my ASQ stay. Great customer service.
  • I booked a consultation with my local GP (general practitioner medical doctor) down the street for a date 60 hours before my flight. The GP wrote out my Fit to Fly certificate and signed it and tested me for COVID right there in his office. The test was sent off to Australian Clinical Labs who sent it back to the clinic 24 hours later. The clinic forwarded it on and I received the email stating a negative PCR COVID-19 result from Australian Clinical Labs 34 hours before my flight departed.

Hopefully I have not missed anything. Now to finish packing my bags.

It all went very smoothly and was basically easy.  No unexpected hiccups. The flight from Australia to Singapore had only nine people on it and I was the only Australian. The flight from Singapore to Bangkok however was a large plane and about two-thirds full. There were many Australians on that flight. Booked on Singapore Air. Thanks for people's help and good luck to everyone heading out.

There was no cut off date on mine, I assume i could have left at anytime as it's registered in the system, perhaps the rules have changed.

Just checking in here to let everyone know I am out of ASQ after one more full day. The whole process was pretty breezy. So if coming from Australia don't be intimidated, just follow the checklists and get on with it.
