Thai army denies supplying rice to Myanmar forces

Is it not inconceivable to still conduct trade with an illegitimate government? A government who took over by force of arms, declared elections fraudulent, disrespected the Electoral Commission 's assertion that none existed, jailed leaders who won the election, continue to Trump up charges against the former leadership?

 

And still normal trade is conducted, according to the Thai military. But this is not a normal trade route, according to residents.

 

One draws the conclusion, something shady is going on. Military back scratching I suspect.

 

Interesting to note that the Myanmar military have alienated the KNU. Should be interesting to see what the Karen's do next. Or other signatories to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement...

And not one mention of the 'Belt and Road' and the China-Myanmar high speed railway that will allow China’s imports and exports to bypass the congested Malacca Strait and contested South China Sea?  Or are they just displacing people for sh*ts and giggles?  This article is a lame attempt to shame the Thai Military for supplying some rice while ignoring the reasons and major players in the first place.  The Thai military hasn't survived the carnage in SE Asia over the last 100 years relatively unscathed by making stupid decisions, like refusing a request from China to supply Burmese troops with rice.  When the Japanese came the Thai Military did not resist, when America wanted to train the Khmer Rouge on Thai soil the Military complied, people who are knocking the Thai military for supplying rice to Burmese troops have no understanding of Geopolitics.

I think the PM has said that this is normal trade, and is a continuation of an existing (pre-coup in Myanmar) policy. And that leaving the rice there is somehow "normal".

 

So if there is anything to see here it is "normal", and (waves hand) these aren't the rice sacks you're looking for.
