I bought car April 2020. And right now I'm renewing voluntary insurance for April 2021 - April 2022. That's pretty straight forward.

But I also have to pay mandatory insurance + car tax, right? I assume mandatory insurance + car tax is usually payed at the same time? And sticker on my windshield says 1กค 2564 (1 July 2021). Which would be 15 months from the date I bought the car? And not 12? Maybe when I bought the car, they pre-payed for extra year, that's why mandatory insurance and tax is due 15 months after I bought it?

Or it this not the correct date?

Also I don't understand why in the book the last line says 2563 but line before says 2564.

Also my voluntary insurer is offering to buy Mandatory insurance.

How would get the sticker/note into car book? And wouldn't I have to go pay car tax anyway, making all this service useless, as I'm doing a trip to the office anyway.

I guess the tax can be paid 3 months in advance, this is what the owner did, paid the tax in April 2020 for the period from July 2020 to July 2021.

The last line could be the transfer fee when the car got transferred in your name, did this happen on 9th April 2020?

If this app works as advertised you could pay the tax through the app and would receive the sticker by mail, thus no trip to your DLT required (Only for cars less than 7 years old)

Compulsory insurance and tax can also be done at 7/11, saving a trip to the DLT. (Only for cars less than 7 years old).

The DLT tax app is useless. Just downloaded it; no English option and won't accept passport number as ID number.

This doesn't make it useless. I assume nearly everybody here knows a Thai person whose ID number they can use.

And if the car isn't in the Thai person's name? Is that OK?

Anybody can pay the tax, you just need an ID number. You can just use the ID number of your girlfriend or whoever.

If paying tax in 7/11 you need a Thai ID card, but again, can be anybody's ID card.

Oh, OK. I'll try that again. Last time I tried in 7-11 with my wife the cashier just said, "Farang, Mai Dai." My wife enquired further, but to no avail, so I ended up going to the DLT drive-through service.

The mandatory insurance is the Government Insurance and costs about 600thb. Many people buy it at the same time as their voluntary insurance...often it is just included in the renewal price.

You can’t tax your vehicle unless you have the Government Insurance...

Until the car is registered you are on Red Plates and don’t pay road tax. So as long as you have voluntary insurance you do not have to buy the Government Insurance until you need to tax the car...

No, he taxed it as a moveable, public swimming pool.
