Options for long term stay with a visa exempt status

Recommended Posts

Wondering what kind of options I have for a long stay in Thailand just using my visa exempt. I know that the visa exempt will give me 30 days plus a possible 30 day extension but would like to stay longer without having to go through the Thai Embassy in florida ( I'm not in the U.S. at this time).

At the current time, a visa exempt entry gives you 45 days (15 of which are spent in quarantine, though this might be reduced shortly to 10 days). As you stated, you can also receive a 30-day extension. Right now, there are "Covid" extensions of 60 days, but these will cease being available at some point, and I would not rely on being able to get one three months from now.

There are various ways you might qualify for a "conversion visa" to a non immigrant entry if you qualify which would give you an initial 90-day entry with the possibility of subsequent one-year extensions. How old are you? Do you have a Thai spouse or child? Might you be interested in working or studying in Thailand?

There is no Thai embassy in Florida. There is a honorary consulate but at this time they cannot issue any visas due to the covid 19 pandemic. You can only apply at the embassy in Washington DC or one one the official consulates in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles.

Where are located now. You will need to apply for a certificate of entry at the Thai embassy for where you are located to enter Thailand. Online application is here. https://coethailand.mfa.go.th/

You could apply for a 90 day non-o visa entry at immigration based upon qualifying for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement. You would need 800k baht in a Thai bank on the day you apply for the visa with proof it came from abroad and then for 2 months when you apply for the one year extension.
