Pattaya: Public water supply deemed safe after online post spooks residents

Pattaya's water chiefs hotfooted it to Soi Bongkot 2 after a social media post claimed there were creepy crawlies in the public water supply.

Someone who posted online found red worms that were up to 40 millimeters long coming out of the taps.

Though the poster suggested it was more likely the fault of using the dregs of a tank or from a faulty pump rather than the actual water supply itself.

Chaithat It-saeng went to the soi with his teams, reported Siam Rath, then declared that everything was above board - there were no irregularities in the supply.

He explained about filtration and the addition of chlorine which meant that nothing like a worm could live in Pattaya's water. He spoke of a sealed system using high pressure pipes from source to user.

He declared it safe.

The media spoke to a granny in the soi who runs a laundry who was not so sure.

Phunnapha said she and her relative had found what looked like a tapeworm in the water on two occasions.

She paid for water to be delivered going through 200 baht's worth every few days because she didn't trust it.

Time to self-inspect if ever there was a time.

Mea Culpa.  I get these red worms/centipedes coming into my house from the garden usually at night presumably attracted by the light.  I usually sweep them up and put them down the toilet!

The worms would be the least of my concerns drinking the local water, at least you can see them. Unless they are coming direct from a supply pipe more likely from a storage tank.
