April Fools! Thai police say there is no truth to suggestions they will repair your car for free nationwide

The Thai police - after issuing orders to media organizations like Thaivisa not to engage in April Fool's day tomfoolery, got pranked themselves.

Now they are threatening jail if the miscreant is found.

INN reported that an online post claimed that a division of the Thai police known as police engineers would repair your car for free if it broke down anywhere in the country.

They gave an "02" number and said you'd only need to pay for parts, not the repair itself, that was free.

The police explained this was "fake news" and that the posted could be prosecuted under a 2017 law, Article 14.

This allows for jail terms and fines for spreading false information.

There is a group of engineers attached to the metropolitan police who respond to problems experienced by motorists in Bangkok but they only do work on things like brakes and batteries in the capital to keep the traffic flowing.

They can be contacted on 1197, 24 hours a day or on the M Help Me app.

That's genuine, the other information is not announced a couple of less than amused major generals.

On Wednesday the Crime Suppression Division had told Thaivisa and other news outlets that the tradition of making jokes on April 1st was not part of Thai culture.

And miscreants could face five years for having a laugh.

That appears to be the RTP's job.

'' the tradition of making jokes on April 1st was not part of Thai culture.'' Neither is Christmas, Valentine's day or Halloween, but all are actively supported because they are big money earners for shops and stores. There is little profit in jokes.

The government is really trying to lighten it up. On April First the Bangkok Post ran an article about immigration doing away with the 90 day report. Hilarious!

The joke is a joke,  and that's not Big Joke.

All in good fun. Then you have miserable grimacing dudes who need to get out more often and laugh.

It's ironic that the hopeless online system for 90 day reporting was actually launched on 1st April, six years ago.

Love this comment on a forum where most grouches would have them spark up the electric chair for throwing water...

Oh dear, forum members upsetting you again, chill out mate you are a long time dead.????????????????????????

Engineers?????

Probably mechanics.

Everybody here wants to hold a title or a uniform with lots of stars.

Even the ones, sitting at condos and waiving you out wear a uniform with stars. Probably all retired generals.

Ah, clearly the days are gone when you could tell people they could double their processor speed by melting a mars bar over the CPU in an over and then placing the cooled unit in a freezer to take advantage of "cooling technology similar to that used by SuperComputers" and then laughing out loud when they mailed or phoned you up to ask how to get the Mars bar off of their logic board.
