BANGKOK (NNT) - There are now just a few days until Songkran, and the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol. Gen. Suwat Jangyodsuk, held a video conference with top police officials today (Apr 5) to discuss crime and accident prevention measures to ensure travelers’ safety nationwide.

Concerning measures to facilitate traffic flow, police officers, together with their vehicles and equipment, are to be deployed to assist travelers, open special lanes on motorways and inform commuters about shortcuts and congested roads to avoid.

The officers have to enforce 10 road safety measures stringently. The measures deal with speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, violating traffic signals, motorists carrying their driver’s license, the wearing of seatbelts, overtaking a vehicle on a narrow road, drink driving, wearing of safety helmets, illegally-modified motorcycles and using mobile phones while driving.

In addition, people can contact their local police station to have their homes placed in the care of the police during the 10-day holidays, from April 9th to 18th.

why do people talk in such terms ? this is thailand, best you can hope for is SOME progress; there is no 'ensure' or 'guarantee'

That must have been where the highway patrol car, which ran the red lights just after they had changed and nearly wiped out 3 motorbikes, was going this morning. I did wonder - there are half a dozen based up here in the frozen north but I haven't seen one for months; don't seem to get many VIP convoys heading up from the airport at the moment, nipping across the border for the casinos and what have you is out of favour for a bit...

Phone fully charged.  Dark glasses on to avoid looking at the traffic. Calculators at the ready to calculate overtime rate for doing absolutely nothing.

Would you trust a bulldog to look after a plate of sausages?

No you wouldn't but the difference between the RTP and the bulldog is that the RTP would take the sausages and the plate ????

right now they should be discussing how to stop masses of people exiting Bangkok and travelling across the country, there is very obviously another covid outbreak developing in the capital and if they continue with this nonsense it will spread far and wide
