BMA considers field hospitals as health officials warn COVID-19 infections may increase exponentially

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the Ministry of Interior and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to arrange space for the setting up of a field hospital in Bangkok, in case COVID-19 infections increase beyond the capacity of the capital’s regular hospitals.

He assured, however, that the current situation in Bangkok is still under control, but warned the public not to lower their guard and to observe basic safety guidelines strictly, such as wearing face masks, observing social distancing and avoiding high risk venues.

While expressing concern over the pandemic situation, the prime minister said that he does not want to order all entertainment outlets nationwide to close, while noting that those which fail to follow the guidelines strictly will be shut down immediately.

Think another shut down would be a last resort and a loss of face all round. Though inall honesty it would probably be more like a finger pointing contest.

When Prayut tries to "assure" people about anything, you can guarantee things are not looking good.

Under control !!!! Is he serious?

Going by whats being reported on the news, it is anything but under control.

sure just allow millions to travel all over the country these next 2 weeks and spread it far and wide

If I was to hatch an evil plan to spread covid around the country to make sure it was everywhere - I would do exactly what this government is doing/allowing right now especially the Health minister - who voted for him in any election, oh that's right - Prayut was appointed PM and he in turn appointed an unelected bunch of cronies to top office

the only rational conclusion I can come to is that it is intentional

on the other hand it is stupidity beyond belief

What he possibly meant was is that he and his government's lies are under control regarding the infection rate. The level of his and his Ministers incompetence is astounding yet it appears that  what many people want to hear are lies rather than facts. Another OP recently asked the question "where did these new clusters come from". The answer is simple, nowhere, as they have been here all the time. Facts speak for themselves and given that Thailand is 199 in the rankings for number of tests undertaken and 134 in the number per million of population, then clearly it has never gone away, just hidden. Government lies and even the delusional on this forum have ensured that a false comfort zone was portrayed to the gullible.  Now as they say it appears the chickens are coming home to roost. Very quickly will it now potentially spread  given the loonies in charge want people to spread it from Bangkok and other red zones to the provincial millions by encouraging mass SongKran travel.

PM said "...to observe basic safety guidelines strictly, such as wearing face masks, observing social distancing and avoiding high risk venues.'

He should have added:  '...frequent hand washing with soap or with alcohol based sanitizer'.

Well, it sounds good.

Perhaps a better plan would be get the damn vaccines into people, & to do it now.

Call me cynical, but I rather think that the 'clinics' that will provide vaccinations are competing for the business.

Or maybe as smedly suggests, there's an "evil plan"...?

An OP here tells is Covid is not so back, sick for 4 weeks, 5 more to recovery. That's a minimum folks!

Do you want that roll of the dice? End up in a lovely place like the pic above?

We WERE the envy of the world, until greed & envy spoiled the soup. We had ERADICATED Covid & now we're blindly following other countries on the path to destruction. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Truely amazing, look at the UK and Europe, see what happens when you don't lock down soon enough. The evidence is already there, you don't need to re-invent the wheel.

A friend of mine went to Bumrungrad hospital yesterday..for the 3rd time .. this year. Asked about when vaccine is going be available! Was previously told by May or June. Now a senior administrator said likely to be at the end of year ! This is from a hospital that actually vaccinated the deputy clown PM ! The country has no plan ! All the lies about purchasing the millions of vaccines.  All pie in the sky. Around 200,000 vaccinated in whole country and 90% of those with Chinese vaccine ! The 3rd wave after Songkran travel could well be another disaster

Truly amazing if a country doesn't take measures other than a sledgehammer ( closures and lockdowns ) to deal with this. UK has the best vaccine program .NO more lockdowns.  Thailand good at recycling it's failure
