Male 77 years old.  Renewed my retirement visa in Pattaya on 11th May 2020. Got single re-entry visa. Travelled fom Thailand to U.K. on 30th May 2020. Eva cancelled return flight and i got caught up in the Covid restrictions. Have wife and my wife's niece at home in Pattaya. Looked after both for the last 15 years. Unfortunately my wife's niece, now 15 , has had cancer since she was 12 and is vulnerable to Covid. I need to get back as quickly as possible to look after them both. I have had my first vaccination on 28th January and am expecting to be called for my 2nd shot in the next fortnight. Any help or advice would be appreciated, to enable me to get back in time to renew retirement visa before it expires.

All of the requirements are covered on the Embassy website here;

https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/requirements-for-foreigners-travelling-to-thailand-during-covid-19-tra?page=5d6636cd15e39c3bd00072dd&menu=5f4b6eb3f6ae4b236972c562

You are going to have trouble with time if you are waiting for your next vaccination.  You are still going to need to do 14 days quarantine on arrival as the reduced quarantine is only applicable to those who have been vaccinated a minimum of 14 days before arrival.  So your extension of stay is likely to have run out by the time you get out of quarantine.

You also need to sort our the quarantine hotel and insurances and get your Certificate of Entry organised.  Also, have you maintained the money you need for the extension of stay in your Thai bank?

If I am still in quarantine as the date for my retirement renewal falls due, is it possible to get someone (my wife perhaps) to take the necessary paperwork and passport to the immigration office at Chonburi? Or do ni have to attend in person.

The standard quarantine is now 10 days unless from certain countries that have a  large number the covid 19 variants that have to do the 14 quarantine.

That would be possible if she is allowed to get your passport from you at the hotel where you are staying.

The problem might be getting proof of the funds in your bank account.

Am I right in saying that recently you stated that a COE is no longer needed ?

You must have a COE to enter the country and I never wrote that is wasn't needed.

In order to provide you with useful advice - surely in view of the tight deadlines you mention in your message - some more info from your side is needed.

  • Did you buy a Re-Entry Permit to protect the permission to stay of the 1-year retirement extension based on your Non Imm O Visa?
  • If so, what is the expiry date of that 1-year retirement extension you got in Pattaya?
  • Are you married to a Thai national or have Thai dependant children?
  • Do you have the documents of Thai wife/children that would enable you to apply for a Non Imm O Visa for that reason (instead of returning on your current Re-Entry Permit)?

Thanks for response. Have copies of my wife and dependant child's passport (only the two main pages)

Have copies of house book and marriage certificate (plus English Translation) RETIREMENT renewed in Pattaya runs out on 11th May 2021

Thanks for response. I was going to ring the bank (SCB) but the site says they are closed today.

Is there a reason; you know of' that I might not be able to get them to give my wife confirmation of the details of and the amount in my account.

The should of been open today since it not a bank holiday. After today they will not be open until Friday.

With you bank book and your passport and signed copies of it she may be able to do the letter and update your bank book. Your marriage certificate might help.

Banks have some rules for privacy which they could invoke not do it.

Edit: If you wife is Thai she may be able to do a 60 day extension for you to visit her so you would have enough time to do your extension later.
