BANGKOK (NNT) - Many people who are at risk of contracting COVID-19 visit the Urban Institute for Disease Prevention and Control in Bang Khen district, Bangkok, to undergo COVID-19 tests. The institute is now open to such risk groups, with the aim of testing 500 people a day.

The Urban Institute for Disease Prevention and Control is conducting COVID-19 tests on two groups. The first group includes 500 walk-ins a day. The tests are conducted by four royally-bestowed biosafety mobile units. The second group is those sent by officials, with a limit of 200 people a day. The opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

An official told reporters today that many people are visiting the institute to undergo COVID-19 tests. On some days, people arrive at the institute at 6 a.m. The queue was long at 10 a.m. today (Apr 12).

To speed up the process, the institute has put up a Quick Response (QR) code for people to scan and provide their information. Officials will then call the queue number, and those who agree will have to sign a consent form before taking the test.

The official added that the institute will adjust its plan if more infections and high-risk people are reported. As the number of COVID-tests may increase, three separate testing rooms have been prepared.

I wonder how many people who don't feel sick go and get that swab on a wire jammed through their nose and into the back of their throats just to alleviate their worry?
