Spaniel
Is anyone familiar with the above hospital, and would you recommend them? I am looking for a knee specialist as I may require knee replacement so any doctor suggestion would also be appreciated. I remember this hospital from years ago when it was the US Army 5th Field Hospital. I would guess that it has expanded since then?
brewsterbudgen
They're OK. Most of the doctors speak reasonable English, but if you're an inpatient the ancillary staff don't! We've used them for years. They did misdiagnose my wife's indigestion as appendicitis though! Basically, they are a mid-range hospital and you get what you (or hopefully your insurance) pay for. A lot depends on which doctor you get!
Sheryl
Never choose the hospital. Choose the doctor. There are sub-par doctors in every hospital, no exception. There are usually also =good doctors i nevery hospitalk. The best knee specialist is Dr. Panya at Bumrungrad https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/doctors/Panya-Wongpatimachai

Which doctor you get is up to you, unless you make the mistake of letting hospital clerical staff decide for you, which you should never do. "They" did not misdiagnose your wife. A specific doctor working there did. And there is nto a hospital in the world to be found where it could not happen. There are however individual doctors who seldom make such mistakes. setbkk
My wife and I have been there a few times for very minor issues. Mixed results. I would definitely not get a knee replacement there unless I could verify credentials/experience of surgeon. Their website has minimal info about their doctors. dddave
I live close by to Sukhumvit Hospital and have used it numerous times for minor issues. I have found a tendency there to "up-sell": very quick to recommend MRIs and other pricy diagnostic tests. Pharmacy is expensive and getting doctors to write out prescriptions so they can be filled outside is very difficult, even for OTC medications. At Bumrugrad B380,000 for knee replacement and at Sukhumvit they are offering a new knee procedure, UKA, or Unicompartment Knee Arthroplasty for around the same price, per knee. Yes, one doctor misdiagnosed my wife and insisted she be admitted for a scan (it was evening). The next day another (much younger) doctor examined her by hand, and immediately said it was definitely not appendicitis and sent her home. Unfortunately in Emergencies you don't get to choose the doctor.
