it looks like sh-t smells like sh-t and tastes like sh-t

there fore

it must be SH-T

:o

no such thing as a native Aussie who dislikes Vegemite .....................................

its an acquired taste.

but nothing that someone who has eaten/likes some of the stronger thai foods wouldn't like

I understand the vege part of the name, but is the mite part referring to some sort of insect carcass?

OP gotta be taking the mick. Any way MARMITE IS MY MATE!!

The OP is rolling in the isle laughing with some of these replies.

But, at least, I now know what it is & how to use it. If I see it again, I'll try a small jar, spread on toast in the morning. Maybe best to wait till badly hungover.

Tks for the info all :-)

Best to spread it over a field ,,

some one elses field :o

Vegemite is a national icon Colino see the links above that I posted. How dare you insult one of our national foods? Hah you should be smeared in Vegemite tarred and feathered!

And licked to death by a gang of young vegemite starved oz ladies ,,,,, ok :o

Righto Colino, spread Vegemite on your body and all the Aussie girls in Thailand will seek you out and lick you to death :o

Where did you say i can buy a bucket of the stuff ,? :o

PS

no real offence intented to any oz ,

if i was born 120 years ago i would have been sent to oz ,

and my kids would be eating the stuff :D

VB or Victoria Bitter beer is rumoured to be flavoured with Vegemite hence the name 'V' for 'Vegemite' so there. No idea where to buy a bucket importing it in large containers is illegal because drug smugglers use it to hide prohibited substances in....it throws off the sniffer dogs.

Down Under

Buying bread from a man in Brussels

He was six foot four and full of muscles

I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"

He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich

And he said,

"I come from a land down under

Where beer does flow and men chunder

Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?

You better run, you better take cover."

the odd Usaian my be familiar with the above ............................ :o

I love Marmite and Vegemite. I have been eating it for most of my adult life. Spread on toast in the morning. Back home we eat Rocky Mountain oysters, which some people find unusual.

vegemite, cheese and baked beans jaffle is to die for, poms your taste is not in your taste buds, demonstrated by your love of hot beer :o:D

Alright Bronco, Im a whinging pom and its been a while since I was in Oz, just wondered what a Jaffle is mate?! Is it potato?

Have a good one! :D

Cheers Mid! Good bloke! Ahhh The Ole Waffle! Next time Im over there I will be sure to order a cheese and bean 'Jaffle', sat in my 'thongs' enjoying a VB or 12.

Onya' mate!

:D KDO (Drongo)

PS - My Fave Ozzy Slang - <li>a bit more choke and you would have started

misc:- a statement said to somebody who has just passed wind in public rather loudly.

Western food forum as no self-respecting Thai person would eat this stuff...

But nice to watch them spring up and run for a glass of water.

Other uses - put into savoury sauces like chilli or spagetti.

oooh toastie maker! Havent had one of those for years.

Its one of those things you buy, make every filling variety you cant think up, then around a week later get sick of the sight of them. Maker then gets stored in the back of a cupboard until re-discovered many months later, where the cycle is repeated.

Its a sandwich toaster :o

Great entertainment to watch a bloke laugh at his own jokes.. :D

Vegemite is a Vegetable extract...Marmite is a beef extract..

Farangconnection has in fact destroyed all the Pommie Marmite in favour of Vegemite..

Yummie....

Hot toast, plenty of butter thin spread of Vegemite...keeps the heat-seaking-moisture-missile in good order, keeps mossies away, cures hangovers, makes Martin red in the face.

Marmite is a beef extract..

your thinking of bovril. Marmite is veggie.

Marmite ingredients:

Yeast Extract

Salt

Vegetable Extract

Niacin

Thiamin

Spice Extracts

Riboflavin

Folic Acid

Celery Extract

Vitamin B12

Vegemite's a lot more like a paste than marmite (which is relatively runny). Taste wise vegemite is more bitter apparently. Also, Marmite is apparently sweeter than vegemite, but vegemite is saltier than marmite. :o

Since Vegemite is no longer Australian owned (not since 1935 anyway), this alternative spread has entered the market. Never tried it though.. Anyone have any ??

NOpe, havent tried it..but an Aussie Mite have.

gawd sorry, couldnt resist. :o

The English make a watered down version called Marmite.

That's to get you back for watering cold tea down and calling it beer. :o

I will no longer be helping the Vegemite-deprived learn what they've been missing, because sometimes the stores run out. You lot need to quit buying up all my Vegemite.
