PM asked to reconsider dine-in ban on eateries in Thailand’s COVID-19 Deep Red Zones

Featured Replies

Why should restaurants be open and sell alcohol when all bars are shut? I am talking about smaller bars not big nightclubs where people are crammed together, there are a lot of staff without any income not only from restaurants so the govt should not open restaurants without bars. We can all eat and drink at home without any problems until we all get the jab.

The "dine-in" ban is hurting restaurants small and large all over.  Limit the # of people in a restaurant, but not completely ban dine-in.  Have an earlier closing time, but not completely ban dine-in

I do not think restrictions are the issue. The issue is the never ending length of restrictions and being unable to plan positively for the end of them as you have no end date for return to normality.

Well at the pace of the vaccine program.here herd immunity is a very long way off.

So get used to lockdowns. And no tourism. No one in their right mind is going to spend time in quarantine to enter a country in and out of lock downs while the rest of the world is getting vaccinated and recovering.

Thailand should do nation wide T cell tests to determine how may Thais even CAN get infected and have bad outcomes. So far despite multiple outbreaks they haven't even gotten within 10% of the road fatalities (which they live with year after year) so it's entirely likely that their immune systems are familiar with these SARS family corona viruses.

Can I have access to the genuine figures too please?

So selfish!!!! It's hurting bars pubs entertainment venues so suck it up at least you have take away and delivery service!!!! ????????????????

They're not allowed to sell alcohol!

Seems very bizarre that I have to quarantine in a country that is far more unsafe than my own and having received both my vaccine shots. The news has been showing a world map of times when countries are expected to be fully vaccinated. Originally Thailand was forecasted to complete vaccination by 2023, although that date did come down a touch.

Obviously.

When they say 14 day all it means is we will be in a full lock down in 30 days or less. Pattaya is almost there no restaurants and cannot walk on the beach. Just a guess and could be wrong but this lock down will stay in effect until Vaccine is distributed. At least for alcohol and bars. The Vaccine is working in UK and USA and those countries are opening up. Thailand is waiting for US/EU handouts like most 3rd World Countries do.

There's nothing to reconsider. The dine-in ban is one of the very few decisions that are both sensible and effective.

Let the police check on the limits since they aren't doing ANYTHING right now.  This hurts coffee shops, breakfast places as well as small restaurants and thus affecting the workers.

Allow alcohol at dine-in too - with earlier closing times and limited # of patrons.  This gives small restaurants more money.  Again, the police can check and first-time is a warning, 2nd time close shop for 7 days, ...

Stop hurting the small businesses and the workers!

Sounds like a recipe for Thailand to be the next India, UK or USA.

Yes. It was crazy to not shut them earlier. They are known and proven vectors. But not as crazy as Songkran travel being allowed. That was an epic mistake.

There is already such a dine in ban in Chonburi province!

But they are asking for there NOT to be one - that's the point of the article!

If they limit the capacity, and spread out the patrons, the risk is low. And you avoid shutting down a huge sector of the economy. And during these times people need an outlet.

The only upside I can think of is that he will anger the entire restaurant industry, the huge number of people working within it, and the general public. It could end up being the beginning of the end for the nitwit incompetent. Something has to fire up the masses, so they rise up and demand change.

Resign now Prayuth. You have always been in so far over your head. Now? You are lost. We all see it.

Typical, just worried about money not people.

I can't recall seeing that comment "Ad nauseum"?

The only thing I can see is your comment pointing out that there is already a ban in Chonburi province, and the article itself where the The Association of Thai Restaurants are asking the PM to reconsider it?

Or are you saying that you have already mentioned a few times that there is already a ban in Chonburi province, in which case, the article merely confirms it!

State what you mean.  If you mean Thailand police can't handle this then say so ...

Pick a state in the US, not the whole place since each has/had different rules.  California got hit hard, but per capita it wasn't so bad.  The current Thailand Covid surge is no where near CA and they allowed dine-in "most" of the time.  Alcohol was always sold at stores and take-away and in restaurants when dine-in was allowed.

Yes, and Thailand is last in line for those handouts because they didn't join COVAX

Ok Bangkok etc are classed in the red zone. since when was Ubonratchathani placed in that zone? They are here doing the same bans in ubonratchathani than they are doing in Bangkok So who makes the rules here? My wife owns a resturant and she cant sell grog and must close at 11  Same as Bangkok so who makes the rules?

This zoning approach is the worst. Pandemics die of herd immunity, either naturally or by vaccines. This way there will be always few thousands infected per week for years to come because plenty of new "customers" for virus are available. You ease the restrictions a bit and it flares up. You impose harder restrictions and it goes down but still goes on lingering because only a total doors welding shut type lockdown would kill it but then the economy would crash...and even with that it would only work until the virus eventually gets in again because no herd immunity.

Yeah - zoning was tried in UK and it worked so well here, didn't it?

Dude! It all about the "POWER"! It makes no difference what country we are talking about, Thailand, England, the USA, Colombia, China....the leaders will use ANY excuse to grab power from the people. Once power is taken, it is not easily given up. They will find another boogie man - excuse- to control people. The sole purpose of government is coercion. How many of these stupid laws and edicts ....not just in Thailand but worldwide....would you follow if you were not  coerced to do so by big brother and the club he wields. The concept of a sovereign man is long dead, that is if it ever existed in the first place.

So you're an anarchist?

Dining In or Out at the Restaurant Should be ok if the people done the Right thing to Prevent infection .

Seperate Tables with screens  is a good start.

Yeah like air flow is stopped dead in its tracks when  it hits a screen.  That's the ticket.

Due consistently under estimate Covid infections are now rising and must be controlled lock down until vaccinations underway otherwise there is a real danger of it getting out of control as has happened in India

Yep....hate it, but lockdowns work as a stop gap....the exit being vaccinations.........tough times ahead.

A lot depends on the economics I guess....many places were given this kind of option in the UK but refused to open as the would lose money.

Hang on a bit Didn't they say that is spreads by Spitting and coughing /touching? A screen should top that I think.Anyway if people walking by they should wear a mask till they sit at their table.
