BANGKOK (NNT) - The Transport Ministry is considering turning a warehouse,at the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT),into a field hospital, to accommodate the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei area.

Deputy Transport Minister AthirathRattanaseth said the PAT is willing to make the warehouse available. The Defense Ministry will be responsible for setting up a 160-bed field hospital, while King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital will provide medical staff and equipment.

He added that the Public Health Ministry currently has only one field hospital in Khlong Toei district. In April, 304 people, residing in or near the Khlong Toei slums, tested positive for COVID-19.

Athirath said this field hospital has only 100 beds, and the authorities hope the new one, at the PAT will help alleviate crowding caused by the rising number of cases in the Khlong Toei area.

Tens of thousands of empty hotel rooms, crying for any business at all, and this is what they're doing?

Is it any wonder nobody wants to go get tested unless they're at death's door?

It is just another daily example of how the controllers of this country despise the normal people that they deliberately treat them like animals. As you say there are hundreds of thousands of vacant hotel rooms now but of course they would be too good for the hard working population to be confined to in their eyes.

I think they may need to expand on that very quickly.

All well and good that the Thai government has been so quick to set up so many field hospitals, but what I never read about is where are they getting the people to staff all these new "hospitals"??  With all these new facilities being set up, I wonder if they are truly able to find competent staff (doctors, nurses, etc.).  Scary.
