Your read is pure speculation however, those hotspots and clusters are all part of the bigger picture on the infection here in Thailand, the overall numbers are the ones that count. 

 

There was 1,995 found through hospital walk ins and contact tracing, you don't just leave those completely off the positive rate.....to do so paints a very artificial figure of the overall situation in Thailand.

 

Have you seen how much testing is going on?

There has been no sign that Songkran has led to uncontrolled spread in the provinces. The doomsayers have been wrong.

 

However, a worrisome sign would be infection rate increasing nationwide, not just in hotspots. Let's see how this goes.

Huai Khwang fresh market closed seven days for disinfection and screening

 

Huai Khwang fresh market in Bangkok was ordered closed for seven days on Monday, after two employees were found to be infected with COVID-19.

 

The Din Daeng district office, which ordered the closure, also declared the market off-limits to all outsiders, while those living inside the market area are prohibited from leaving.

 

The district’s health officials will conduct screening of about 300 traders and employees, many of them migrant workers from Myanmar, on Thursday.

IMO, the Thai economy will lose much more not controlling this than what a lockdown will cost. Why? Most business will still go on as usual, factories will still produce and export. Only smaller parts of the Thai economy will be shut down. And what about the future tourism? Westerners with their gung-ho attitude to covid-19 will still come during 2022 but Asians will not! And income from Asian tourism is much greater than Western tourism. 

 

The next 15 days will decide I think

why would you think that Asians spent more then Western ?  Have you have counted the number of average stay per visitor ? Europeans dont fly her for the weekend. The average is at least 10-14 days.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) timeline to reopen six major tourist provinces – Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Surat Thani (Ko Samui), Chon Buri (Pattaya) and Chiang Mai – to foreign tourists who have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine is going ahead as scheduled in line with the country’s COVID-19 vaccination timeline.

 

Phuket will be the first destination to lift quarantine requirements for vaccinated foreign tourists under the ‘Phuket Sandbox’ programme, starting from 1 July, 2021. Tourists will be required to spend the first seven days on the island, before travelling to other Thai destinations.

 

In preparation to welcome vaccinated foreign tourists, authorities are working on vaccination programme to safely achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 for 70% of Phuket’s population, including residents, workers in tourism-related businesses, and migrant workers.
