By the way, the 800K baht in the bank, if you leave it there permanently for the interest and visa qualifications, is an opportunity cost that you probably should figure into your calculations, to some degree. Personally, I'd been living in Hong Kong for several years and finally reached a point where I was burnt out from working, had enough money and was at the end of a significant piece of work. I'd recently divorced and couldn't see the point in going back to the UK so I decided to take a year off and spend it somewhere fairly inexpensive that I knew quite well. Far from wanting to come here for the women, my motivation at the time was to never get on another plane again in my life and to spend time in a culture that was very different from the West, sex and women couldn't be further from my mind. A year later I was starting to become normal again and I decided I liked being here, the following year I dated for the first time and at the end of that year I met my wife.
