Sophon Cable TV reported on Facebook that Pattaya's mayor Sontaya Khunplome had conducted a zoom conference call with PM's office representative Tossaporn Sirisamphan yesterday.

Also at the table at City hall in Pattaya was a host of interested parties including business leaders and representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Top of the agenda was the vaccine rollout and help for businesses devastated by the pandemic.

Regarding the vaccination rollout it is anticipated that 10,000 people in Bang Lamung will be jabbed per day starting in June.

Later on 100,000 people across the whole of Chonburi province are expected to be jabbed per day. This will be accomplished from August.

Pattaya is pinning its recovery hopes on building confidence by getting workers in the tourism industry vaccinated first followed by a large proportion of the population in general to create a herd immunity ahead of the tourist season beginning in the last quarter of the year.

The dream of herd immunity maybe misleading.

The NIH's (US) take on herd immunity with respect to Covid-19:
It's an elusive term. The majical number of immunity is unknown, variance with mutation is an unknown and possibly causes a reduction in duration of immunity. Currently we know that it's 6 months but we don't have information beyond that for Covid. Thus there is a development of strategies for booster doses including for variant strains. It's being suggested that we take our focus off hered immunity as a goal and just focus on as many people as possible considering and hopefully being convinced of the benefit of vaccination for themselves primarily and protecting their immediate community.

shouldn't all these *tourist leaders" be mothballed like the hotels ?

Poor guys, they can't get away with telling everyone of increased numbers these days, so must be missing their bonuses.
