webfact
Picture: Daily News Daily News reported on a press conference at the weekend that reported on three cases of cars and motorcycles racing on public highways. The races with many people cheering on the participants featured gambling on the result. Thirteen people have been charged with some or all of illegal racing, negligent driving, flouting Covid rules and the emergency decree and gambling offences. Vehicles have been seized as well as 300,000 baht in cash. Three separate cases were announced by Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat, deputy RTP chief. The first featured a 300,000 baht match between two motorcycle detailers who go by the nicknames "Tay Ban Suan", aged 20, from Chanthaburi and "Nott Norn Noi" from Saraburi. They are in the process of appearing in court with 7 others after a race on Pahonyothin Road in Saraburi near the PTT Dusita gas station. The second case involved a car race between "Duk Som", 31, and "Na Nuk Chawalit Suwan" on the Route 7 motorway. Picture: Daily News An apparent video of the race still on YouTube (among others) features a car reaching speeds of 240kmph as the driver laughs. It occurred between KM markers 52 and 57. The court imprisoned both drivers for 4 months reduced to two months suspended for six months. They were fined 2,000 baht each. Their cars were confiscated by the court. The third case was low key by comparison - the arrest of two youths aged 16 and 17 part of a group called "Wai Run 1000 Meters" who were racing motorcycles on Thanarat Road in Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima. Gen Damrongsak urged the public to inform on the racers by calling 1599 or 191. members of the public could get 3,000 baht rewards for information. -- © Copyright Thai Visa News 2021-05-17 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

I always thought those guys are called tuners or tuning companies. Or is there a difference. In the UK when you get a car professionally cleaned it is cleaned thoroughly and properly. Elsewhere namely the US and here you get your car cleaned but then you don't. They don't lift the bonnet (hood to our US friends) which any self respecting car cleaner would do automatically, nor would they blow the brake dust, use a wool bud to clean the air vents out to name just 3 items. Therefore the US invented the term, which the Thais simply followed of car detailing. That simply means cleaning a car properly, of course at more expense. Now as for these "tuners" then they may also have been detailers I guess, overrated car cleaners to you and I Edited May 17, 2021 by Excel 1 1

Took the words out of my mouth...I live a hundred metres or so from an expressway in central Bangkok. Nearly every Saturday & Sunday morning (6-8am) the sound of supercars gunning it up the expressway is clearly audible.

Not so loud, but judging from the Doppler Shift, quite a high rate of speed. 2 hours ago, bluesofa said: like the maximum number of power poles they can bring down in one go? Anyway, the rev limiter kicked in at about 5,200 rpm. And that "professional tuner" did put the hammer down before the engines coolant and lube has reached proper temperatures. BTW: May be those drivers did not understand what speed limit 120 km/h means. 120 km/h per car or per axle? ???? He obviously did drive only a very short distance or the car did wait a while on the motorway with its engine turned off. In the YT video (at 0:30) you can see the temperatures displayed in the bottom right corner. At the start of the race water was at 64 and oil at 61 degrees celsius..
