Japanese nationals are not subject to the measure, which will affect foreign travelers who have visited the countries in question in the past two weeks.

The Japanese government said Wednesday it will bar the entry of all foreign travelers who have visited Thailand and six other countries in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

 

The measure will be effective from Friday. The six are Cambodia, Sri Lanka, the Seychelles, Saint Lucia, East Timor and Mongolia, bringing the number of countries and regions under such restrictions to 159.

I guess, unlike the poor,  the hi-so will only feel the pandemic when they cannot travel anywhere.

It would seem sensible to me, but these types of ban need to be ahead of the game... ie aware of infection trends of these other countries. Unlike the UK who always seem to leave it too late.... India becoming a red zone for example. I was also dismayed to see arriving passengers from all areas closely and randomly mixing at London Heathrow... one passenger from India was interviewed, and all I could think of is why on earth are passengers from India  even being allowed.

Japan is doing it right.....

So is November still on the books for Thailand to open up for International Flights?  What about October for no quarantine? And the Sandbox in Phuket.  Well flush those ideas down the toilet Thailand. Your dithering let covid run rampant. Looks like you cost yourself the last of the doomed tourism sector.  Good job at being number 1

To say that their plan is workable is nothing short of laughable.  I mean Thailand is worried that their health care system will crash, who on earth would let tourists in spreading more around?

These guys are clearly off their rocker.

as months before Japan said that visitors with a Chinese vaccine are not welcome too.. Maybe a reason more why people from Thailand  are banned

Well those Thai businesses whose billionaire owners live overseas for one. They don't give two hoots about how many become ill or die, just so long as the money rolls in.

This has an impact on my future plans.  Tokyo was a connection point for my journey back to Los Angeles in order get vaccinated.  Japan Airlines had airfares in the mid $700 for round trip from BKK to LAX with a connection Osaka.  

 

I wonder why Thailand was lumped in with those other countries for the ban?  It's not like Thailand is anything like India?  Is there another reason?

 

I emailed JAL and at this time the are not sure if this includes transit passengers?  This sounds just like what has Taiwan is doing.  No Entry and No transit passengers.

Major outbreak and lack of adequate vaccination plan lead to this, Thailand feeling the effects of its complacency and inaction unfortunately.

There you have it, Recovering in progress with your Chonburi cases almost doubling in one day, and more and more clusters in markets and work camps being found.  Tell me in July how this is going again as you predicted when the Phuket Sandbox model is derailed because travel here from certain countries is banned.

Flight NH806 took off this morning en route to NRT. Business as usual.

157 countries...I'd say Thailand is in some pretty good company. Japan, like all countries in Asia, has been slow to vaccinate and  ases are still high therefore the foreign entry restrictions.

It's been almost impossible to enter Japan anyway.

 

This new policy is effective as of tomorrow.

 

AFAI can tell, transit passengers (same airport, same-day international-international transfer) remain unaffected, for now.

 

Remain flexible, look at other options like via the ME.
