The important thing when installing one of these SIMs is your phone has to be UNLOCKED.  This unlocking business is a topic all its own, my guess is it may be easier (and cheaper) to have this done in LOS.  Bear in mind N America uses different carrier frequencies than other parts of the world

Are not all phones sold in Thailand with removable sims unlocked? 

 

I know Mint (and I assume all the providers) has an option on their website that will check the compatibility of your phone.

    I have "Mint Mobile" that I use while in the US. Great coverage and flat monthly rate ($15?) that includes unlimited talk & text and 4 gigs of data. Works in my AIS phone without any issue.

    I went to the US last year, expecting to be there for 6 weeks.  Got a Mint Sim card and 3gb service for $15 a month.  Ended up staying for 13 months and continued using Mint for that time.  No problem
