(Reuters) - Thailand has detected its first 15 domestically transmitted cases of the highly infectious COVID-19 variant first found in India, the country's coronavirus taskforce said on Friday.

The 15 cases were discovered among construction workers in Bangkok. Those were among 3,481 new cases and 32 new deaths announced on Friday, bringing the total to 123,066 cases and 735 fatalities overall.

Wow. It has arrived.  Let's be safe and ensure we isolate those locations where it was found.  Take care folks and be safe.  Looks like the ride has hit turbulence

A CCSA meeting today (Friday) resolved to propose, to the cabinet, another extension of the State of Emergency, until the end of July, citing the Public Health Ministry’s estimation that another two months will be needed to bring the pandemic under control.

Yea, you really think so!

Construction sites were the new and upcoming clusters. Looks like it is a bigger cluster cluck then anyone wanted.    Ugh.

Yep. .......i wonder is the Sandbox still on?

It was a matter of time unfortunately.

Will stay home for a few more months then...

Indian variant arrives in Thailand..............okay, UK here we come.....had enough of this.....oh wait......???

Is anyone really surprised by this news? I suppose Thailand will stumble on with minimal testing to mask the spread of this variant much like it did with the Kent one. I'm guessing the new "magic" acceptable number will be around 3500 per day for a very long time

The plane has already crashed into the mountain I would say, and the proverbial poo from the cabin bog is about to hit the propellers!

Hold on tight, it's gonna get rough!

maybe TAT will promote another Songkran in June just to get this one stirred up a bit. You know, get it out in the country side.

the likely government response will be to put more roadblocks in the way of importing and providing any vaccines other than the beloved sinovac and the regal vaccine

There are not many expats who can afford to swell anymore..........

There is a National holiday next week.  And another the following week.  The big 3 day holiday comes in July.

People are free to move as they please no restrictions, so will have to wait and see.

Now that we have found the needle in the haystack,  we can conclude that the authorities are good at finding needles or there are a lot of needle in the haystack.

My bet is on the latter.

Just a regular Indian covid variant is BORING....

For some real sitting on the edge of your seat action, cant we have some thing like the Covid Triple mutant Variant...

  • One SARS-CoV-2 variant (B.1.617) found in India has been dubbed the "triple mutant variant."

Please start taking this Indian Covid Variant seriously! My neighbour caught it and has been in a korma for a week and he's only just buried his Naan.

Construction workers... read Burmese and Cambodian workers! I mean, the new variant didn't get to Thailand on 2 legs and these workers are most likely not subjected to 14 days quarantine when they cross the border... In the end it all comes down to the greed of the construction companies!

Have no fear, the man is already 'on the job'.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul convened an urgent meeting with relevant agencies after 15 cases of Indian Covid variant were found in the cluster of infections at the worker camp in Bangkok’s Laksi district.
