Uk Guy Getting Married In Thailand

Featured Replies

I have a friend who is getting married in Thailand in the next couple of months and requires some info, I don't want to give any mis-information so thought I would post here for the definitive answers.

She is from the Phillipines and they are getting married in Thailand.

Where do you get it registered and how much does it normally cost?

What Docs do you need translating and again what is the going rate for the official translations?

Cheers

Moss

Moss,

The fiancé will need an affirmation of freedom to marry from the British embassy and the fiancée one from the Philippine embassy. In order to obtain these, they will need to show any previous divorce certificates and their passports. Once they have the affirmations, these should be translated in to Thai. This can be done at any of the plethora of translation bureaux in Bangkok, although if the lady's affirmation is in Tagalog, I don't know how easy it is to locate a Tagalog/Thai translator. The affirmations and the translations should then be taken to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs complex in Laksi and authenticated. When I did mine, nearly four years ago now, it cost 800 baht per document for the express service and only took about an hour of hanging around, although I did get pushed to the front of the queue because one of the clerks identified me as being from Liverpool and laboured under the misapprehension that I am best chums with Michael Owen. Armed with the MFA authentication, the parties are then free to marry in any amphur. The cost of the ceremony, such as it is, is free, although your pal might be tapped for a bit of tea money, as I was. Some people say you have to have two witnesses, but when Mrs. Scouse and I married in Banglamung, we had none.

"Can I get married using a visa on arrival or do i need to get one here before i go?"

OK Folks another question, can anyone help?

Cheers

Providing your mate otherwise qualifies for a 30-day entry, there's nothing stopping him marrying during that.
