An American man wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a Taiwanese businessman in Bangkok has been arrested attempting to leave Thailand.

The 38 year old man was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Wednesday in accordance with an arrest warrant issued at South Bangkok Criminal Court last month.

He faces a number of charges including abduction, extortion and attempted murder.

The man, who denies the charges, is being held at Lumpini Police Station pending further legal action.

Daily News reported there are a total of 16 suspects in the case, including 10 Thais and 6  foreigners. So far, 9 people have been arrested. The first of the arrests came last month when two American men were arrested in Bangkok.

Officers from Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division say that one of the American men fell out with the Taiwanese man due to a dispute over a failed business deal for surgical gloves totalling US$3 million.

The two American men deny the charges and have since been released on bail but must wear electronic tags and can not leave Thailand.

On Tuesday, it was reported that two serving police officers were also arrested in connection with the case.

I have seen it before twice, coincidentally both were from the USA facing jailable offences, and both escaped.

One was a quite infamous Noisy "fake lawyer/publisher" in Pattaya that some of the old-timers would know.

I predict the Americans will "escape" which will result in the two Thai coppers either blaming the "escapees" fully or the court throwing the case out because of lack of witnesses.

Should have arranged a porous border crossing, get a fake stamp and got out from another country.

He probably thought he could outsmart the watchlist system. Police and immigration computer systems never sleep.

And the ever vigilant BMW "Smart cars"  don't forget.????

any time a person commits a crime with another person or more, they are totally vulnerable to being arrested. All that is needed is for 1 person to get arrested. That person will turn on all the others. They all become 'dead meat' when that happens. the person will get 0 time in jail if they turn on the others. it is that simple.

They would have had to gone through a third country but what were they going to do when they hit a US Port of Entry?

Maybe they were in the "Global Traveler" expedited entry plan. ????

Agreed, I think the Cambodian border will be the destination, although that can be a bit of a minefield!?

They probably do not have there passports, so might be a little difficult to leave the country

Thousands are crossing thai borders illegally on a weekly basis. Getting out of Thailand without a passport is not difficult.

Only if you believe his actions were legal - which it seems they weren't..... So you agree with the Hi-so I can do whatever I want and get away with it. Nice, hopefully something doesn't happen to you or your family and you want justice..

I think the ' 2 serving police officers ' says volumes for the case gradually disappearing unless brown envelopes appear from the Taiwanese.

$3 million? Was this money the Taiwan guy took and did not give back? Or did the Taiwan guy do the deal behind their back cutting them out of the profit? or?

Shame they didn't see the Red Bull excretia when he passed through the Airport on numerous occasions !

Never do crime in Hot Season monkeyhouse is a Sauna

Bang Kwang and Klong Prem are bad enough but being there when the pandemic is raging within those prison walls can make even a US marine's knees buckle. If he has the means, he should try to get bail like his alleged accomplices.

Yes I can just see Lumpini Police cell floors being all marked out with sleeping places 1.5 mts apart and a fresh box of masks on the dressing table lol!  Just go back a bit and study that arrest video to see how many cops with no masks or with them hanging under their chins lol!

now arrest Red Punk
