Homeless situation in Pattaya worsening according to local officials, some residents worried about Covid-19 in homeless population

Local residents in Pattaya have expressed concern to Pattaya press about both an increase in homeless in the local area as well as concerns around Covid-19 in the homeless population.

 

Pattaya is approaching two months as of June 10th, 2021, in which all entertainment venues and many other venues, like gyms, massage shops, and beauty clinics, have been ordered closed to help prevent Covid-19. 

 

Pattaya City relies on tourism, including domestic, for about 80% of their GDP, and entertainment-related venues, as well as tourist attractions, are the big economic driver for the local area.

Some way to go before it gets anywhere near as bad it is in some U.S. cities. If the world's wealthiest country cannot get to grips with the problem who can?

Many rich Thai landlords who refused to lower their rent to farrang now have empty properties.

They should be forced to open them for these poor unfortunate people.

Yet again we see the chasm between the rich and the poor.

Helping the poor during a socioeconomic crisis can create a reliable voting block. Perhaps Thai politicians were not taught to think in the abstract?
