Infections Rise in Mongolia, Where Sinopharm Is the Main Vaccine.

The main takeaway from this report is that the two Chinese vaccines are very good at preventing serious illness/death but only so-so at preventing infection.

Sick is better than dead.  Thanks for the article!

This is pretty much what we've known for some time.  Jabs won't 100% prevent you from getting the virus.  Just help prevent you from dying or getting very sick and ending up in the ICU.

We've got a long way to go before we're out of this mess.  Jabs are the only way out.

But some vaccines do perform better than others in this regard. And while for an individual protection against serious outcomes may not differ all that much, for the issue of public health stopping infection and preventing the transmission of the virus is crucial.

For sure.  One reason we're going back to the US in a few weeks for our Pfizer jab.  We're travelers, so this is the jab to get!!!

Mongolia joins the list of Seychelles, Urugay, Chile, Bahrain.

Chinese vaccines (in some countries supplemented by AZ) won't stop the pandemic in a country.  That needs mRNA vaccines (Israel, UK, US).

And all these countries opened too fast, some even let tourists in.

As explained by "Poet" in other threads,  when tourism starts soon foreign workers will bring the virus to Thailand. I expect that Thai migrants will spread it over the country.

I hope that Moderna will come to the rescue. But I wouldn't bet on it.

You can name the bangkok post, just can't put up a link.  If you want, just put up the title.  Easy to google it.

A long road to recovery for Thailand

It should work like that ("with the vaccine you don't end up in hospital so be happy live your life and let's open the country again"). But it doesn't.

You live in Thailand, you should know.

Virtually all asian countries are on "Zero Covid" mode of thinking.

The irrational fear is deeply ingrained.

How will Thailand react when the population will have a vaccination rate similar to the UK... and will have a few thousands  "new cases" per day (like the UK right now, 5000 to 6000) ?

Therefore, mass vaccination will achieve... nothing in governments mind.

Because we will continue to have "cases" (even though asymptomatic, or very mild for most of them)... for a very long time.

Time is passing, and it looks the virus or viruses are becoming endemic.

They sold the populations... a fantasy ("take the vaccine and the world will be normal again").

Fantasy than you can see for instance... in Chile... mass vaccination... with the same vaccine used in Thailand (Sinovac)... and the capital on lockdown AGAIN.

Yeah, crazy what's happening in Chile, Seychelles, etc.  Seems the jabs weren't that good, and they opened up too soon.  Got caught.

I'll have my first Pfizer jab in 10 days.
