Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
The Thai Prime Minister this evening (June 12th) has “unofficially” announced on his Facebook page to ease some restrictions in Bangkok around Covid-19 and stated that the Phuket Sandbox will proceed on July 1st after some further adjustments to the plan by the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) and the Thai Cabinet. The announcements, which we note are not yet truly official as they need to be printed in the Royal Gazette and in government orders, but are now nearly guaranteed to proceed, were made on the Prime Minister’s Facebook accounts around 9:00 P.M. tonight, June 12th, 2021. The statements followed a day in which doubt was placed on the Phuket Sandbox proceeding forward on schedule by some organizations and individuals based on statements that were reportedly taken out of context by the Tourism Minister. Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha stated on his Facebook account, “We (The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the CCSA) have agreed to the easing of several Bangkok restrictions.” Full story: https://thepattayanews.com/2021/06/12/thai-prime-minister-announces-on-social-media-easing-of-some-bangkok-covid-19-restrictions-states-phuket-sandbox-will-move-forward-on-july-1st/ -- © Copyright The Pattaya News 2021-06-13 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Phuket could have significant numbers of non tourists willing to shorter their quarantine time... Until bkk adjusts... 1

Popular Post Karma80
It's a no brainer. If you were coming to Thailand anyway, you'll do it through Phuket if you can. The cost of a BKK quarantine hotel is not insignificant. It also has to build in the costs of the BKK hospital partners. It will be cheaper here on the island for travellers, even with a one-way domestic flight onward. You don't have to put up with staying in a room, no outside food deliveries and no fresh air. Sure, there's no alcohol served at the restaurants, no bars. You weren't allowed that anyway in your ASQ. The boarded up desperation you'll put up with, because it's better than looking at four walls. So, it will be a "win" and face will be saved. All it achieves is robbing the ASQ hotels elsewhere of business and diverting the revenue to Phuket hotels which were not going to survive the next couple of months, at the risk of public health in the general population. Coincidence that Thais only state quarantine facility arrangement just got closed? If you're a real short term tourist, you need your head examined for a whole raft of reasons to travel to Phuket long haul. AnnieSeek
Good news and bad news. Good things opening up, especially the nonsensical choice to close down parks. Bad news - infections will definately creep up. Just a warning if i'm in a park, and some jogger dares runs past me without a mask in heavy exhale pespiration emitting from their mouths i will explode. mark5335
“Five businesses which will be allowed to open in Bangkok and can go back to service EFFECTIVE MONDAY, JUNE 14TH while implementing Covid-19 preventative measures are museums and similar attractions, public parks and botanical parks, beauty clinics, massage shops (foot massages only), nail shops and tattoo shops.” The statement from the PM said. Still no mention of fitness centres / condo gyms re-opening.

Gardens and swimming were closed and then opened in january/februrary... with a much lower number of cases per day than now... when we do reopen them. I repeat the question : where is the logic ? You can't have it both way : closing in january with less than 1 000 cases per day, and open again with more than 2 000 cases in june. Here is my own hypothesis : those policies (closing gardens and swimming pools) are just gimmicks. They have ZERO EFFECT on the virus. 3

I assume parks and pools were closed as they intended to stop close social gatherings in large groups. Tad misguided of course. There is also the psychological trick of raising awareness by some low level, yet striking policies - eg, closing malls an hour early. On the surface it does very little to stop the spread, but it does raise awareness and resonates with people who may have become relaxed. You also have to assume that perhaps they attempted to get the virus back to zero covid like they have enjoyed with past outbreaks, but it's an impossible task with the new variant. I'm sure they aren't prepared to let the virus rip through the country, but ultimately they are going to accept medium levels of covid. Behave. If you think Thailand is a tough gig to get into - go see neighbours Hong Kong and Singapore which are closed, and if you get government permission to enter you will do a horrific 3 weeks quarantine. Try getting into Vietnam! Thailand has one of the more open approaches in Asia. There is a raging pandemic with a more transmissible variant. If they put no measures in place (albeit some are misguided) you'd have a scenario with a virus raging out of control (see India), which will in turn cause more damage. Popular Post AnnieSeek
Domestic tourism has lowered to Phuket primarily because of the instance of a test on arrival or before you fly. People are afraid to take a test and the consequences of a positive test (field hospital). With international visitors arriving in Phuket, i doubt you will see any domestic tourists - they'll be avoiding Phuket like the plague.
