If you have nothing to fear then why be concerned?

This is just about the most naive statement I have heard in a long time. You're talking about Thailand? Are you wearing a blindfold?

No I don`t wear blindfolds. Yes I am talking about Thailand and good luck to the Authorities in their endeavour to catch the criminal element.

People who are legal have nothing to fear.

1000/ % agree with you ! thai decide for themselfe and it's time to clean this city ....

100,000% disagree.... as a better choice would simply be to round up every farang in the city and jail them immediately. Hold them there until they prove they have not committed a crime in Pattaya or anywhere else.

Immigration Department Inspections

The Pattaya Immigration Department has been given strict orders to inspect foreign tourists that are residing in Pattaya since many were found to be overstaying. There is now a new law in operation of Hotels,

Apartments, Condominiums and Guest Houses having to inform the Immigration Department of where foreigners entering the Kingdom of Thailand reside.

In the afternoon of 23rd May both Pattaya Immigration Chief, Police Colonel, Ittipol Ittisarnronnachai and Pattaya Police Chief, Police Colonel Suthin Sappuang and their teams went to inspect foreigners residing at the Niran Grand Ville located in Soi Arunothai. The officers knocked on every door in the building having foreigners residing in and inspected their passports to see if their visa had expired or not?

On that day the officers discovered that 5 room owners did not inform the Immigration Department of having foreign tourists residing at their residences and one Russian tourist that had overstayed for 1 year. The room owners are now being contacted to be reminded and the Russian was escorted out to be fined for overstaying.

So be warned, there will be more spot inspections like this around Pattaya from now on to make sure that everyone is obeying the rules. These inspections are made because the authorities want foreigners to stay in Pattaya legally.

A Major crime syndicate has been smashed!!!... Lawlessness has ended!!!..... Peace and tranquility have been restored!!!! and Pattaya is a completely law-abiding city now!!!!

Now that a solitary Russian tourist has been detained for being on overstay....

Sarcasm is said to be a low form of humour as its intent is generally to get laughs at someone else's expense. The pointed humour may not be funny to the victim but its funny to those who understand the barb as it feeds their intellectual egos.

This is because sarcasm is a form of humour that is known to require the highest functions of our brains. Areas of the brain that decipher sarcasm and irony also process language, recognise emotions and help understand social cues.

Sarcasm is related to our ability to understand other people's mental state so it's not just a linguistic form, it's also related to social cognition.

Don't forget about the five room owners who did not report their guests. Sounds like the break-up of a major crime syndicate to me.

when they taught maths you must have been concentrating more on the budding boobs of the twelve year old girls in your class than on the boring teacher. right?

As for the second figure mentioned, please refer to post #35 as the statement given there also applies to that second figure as well.... :o

I would have thought that the follow-on comments given after the second figure mentioned would have tipped the reader off to that fact, but perhaps not.

PATTAYA IMMIGRATION TIGHTENS UP ON ILLEGAL FOREIGNERS

Pattaya City Immigration, in collaboration with Pattaya Police, are pursuing a stringent new policy to crack down on the many foreigners effectively living illegally in Thailand.

Making a sweep on 23rd May of Niran Grand Condominium, Soi Arunothai, Central Pattaya, a team was jointly led by Pol.Col. Suthin Sapphueng, Pattaya Police Superintendent, and Pol.Col. Ithiphol Ithisarnronawan, Pattaya Immigration Superintendent with volunteers. Altogether, 150 team members inspected people at the condo complex.

The team was looking for persons committing immigration violations with expired visas or no passports.

Searching over 4000 rooms in the extensive 4 building Condominium, the team discovered only one Russian without a passport.

The Immigration Team in its crack-down has informed all hospitality accommodation operators such as hotels, condominiums, guesthouses etc. of the current rules and regulations, governed by Immigration Law 1979, sections 38 and 39, and Pattaya Plan-50.

All operators are required by law to report any foreigners they have staying at their premises within 24 hours. Failure to do so will result in a maximum fine of 5,000 Baht or 200 Baht per day.

The regulations as far as foreigners, who have exceeded the current 90 day limit are concerned, require them to declare their residencies every 90 days.

- Pattaya Daily News

==========================

Good to know the overall crime rate is so low in Pattaya that they can choose to utilize 150 police officers for what evidentally took hours and hours to complete in order to corner this sole Kingpin of Crime.

Immigration Check Niran Grand Condo in search of illegal foreigners

Police Colonel Itipon, the Superintendent of Pattaya's Immigration Bureau along with Police Colonel Sutin, the Superintendent of Pattaya Police accompanied by Immigration Police Volunteers made their way to the Niran Grand Condo Complex in Soi Arunothai in Central Pattaya on Wednesday afternoon.

The purpose of the operation was to conduct an inspection of each of the four main condo blocks in search of foreigners with either expired visas or those who have entered Thailand illegally and do not possess a valid passport.

The search led to the arrest of one man from Russia who was not in the possession of a passport. He will be dealt with in accordance with Immigration Laws.

The Immigration Police would like to warn viewers that random checks on foreigners will be made over the coming weeks so please ensure that you carry your original passport with you at all times and for those who are residing in Thailand on long stay visas, you must report to the Immigration Office every ninety days confirming your current address and telephone number. Failure to do this can result in a fine not exceeding 5,000 Baht.

At the end of the day, if you are overstaying on your visa, you are in the country illegally. That is the same in most countries. If you take the risk and get caught, your problem.Pay the fine/tea money or face whatever consequences ahead.Don't blame anyone but yourself.Just because "everyone" is doing it doesn't make it right.

The basic problem is the view that Thais are innocent until proven guilty and Farangs are guilty until proven innocent. I certainly don't condone overstaying but they do seem to be grandstanding to the press and expending a ridiculous amount of resources when drug addicts all over town are robbing and assaulting tourists. It's a one-way street. It's not even safe to walk along the beach at night?

A couple of weeks ago the Chiang-mai police were telling Farangs to carry copies of their passport, since there were an epidemic of so many bag-snatchings. Now we're being told we must carry the original. They need to crack down on hotels/condos to keep their guest registration in order, it isn't necessary to rout everyone out of their residence. Specifically, these hotels that allow guests to check in without identification. Right idea but the wrong approach. :o

That bears repeating and emphasis.

No photcopy copy, laminated or not.

The ORIGINAL passport.

The "boys in brown" may be satisfied with a copy or a Thai drivers license in a traffic stop, but the Immigrations Police will be looking for the ACTUAL PASSPORT. It kind of makes sense, too, since their job is to not only verify possession of a valid passport (which could be satisified with a photocopy of the cover page), but they want to see the visa and/or visa-waiver stamp and the "permitted to" date, and if applicable, the 90-day address report form.

Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily agree with this, but when the Immigration Police publicly announce they will be conducting random checks and specifically advise to carry your original passport, it's probably a Good Thing to do.

Who would actually go to the safe unlock it, get your passport just to walk down to the 7/11 to buy a loaf of bread? What about if you are going to the beach for the day? Would you leave it unattended on your beach chair when you are swimming? Having your passport on yourself 24/7 is just not practical.

Oh come on, the standards only change for farangs, Thais can (and do) still break all those stupid laws on a daily basis without any cop raising an eyebrow.

and the farangs don't break the law? I think your feeling a bit paranoid here.

onzestan

u better should READ properly before making such statements..... the Farang break the law as well, but the crackdown is only hunting down the Farang..... and not the plenty of Thai law-breakers there in that lovely particular seaside-resort.....

I am sickened and disgusted by some of the naive, ridiculous and ignorant replies to this thread. The police here are not your friends. This was a Nazi, Stazi, you choose your country, dragnet with no thought of inconveniencing law-abiding foreigners. No search warrants were prepared in fact they didn't have a crime to put on a search warrant.

How do you put 4000 condos on a search warrant? Anyone who comes from a country where they have rule of law, a constitution that is in force, and a brain in their head will be disgusted by this action.

Diese papieren Juden Hund.

Brings back memories.

That's right, I'm invoking the Nazi, Jewish memories of the holocaust. Anyone who believes this was something different tell me why.

Fetid ... it stinks.

And for those of your who ask if you are welcome in Thailand imagine the guy who hasn't done anything wrong who opens the door to guys with guns. Did they also search apartments for contraband while they were there?

If you get on the wrong side of the Thai police, It won't matter if you're legal or not. They have extraordinary broad powers which makes it a little disconcerting when they seem to stray from protocol, and have rather negative, preconceived notions about farangs in general. :o

Surely the immigration authorities and those assisting them should concentrate on carrying out inspections in the likes of the Arab Quarter; have u noticed that whenever one visits the immigration here in Pattaya there never appears to be any of that nationality(Arabs etc) dealing with visa's or extensions of stay.

There is a huge difference and its a really simple one, "You can leave" If you think things in this country are in anyway comparable then it is you who are naive and ignorant, compare it again when you get fed up here and are stopped at the border trying to leave the country you detest so much.

Personally I wish they would do the same the length of soi Bukhow, low lifes here are the root of all farang problems, we all get tarred with the same brush these days, clean them up and we might get a little respect again.

So could the jews - at least in the early years.

What is the problem with some posters, can't see anything wrong with Thailand. It all is pink and bliss, anyone saying otherwise are traitors?

PS. it's Buakao, not Bukhow.

Anyone know what's going on? I have been told by a first hand observer that Immigration came in large numbers (40-50 Thai officers + a handful farangs in Immigration uniform) went door-to-door through the thousand rooms checking visas for all farangs found. Anyone wanting to leave the area was checked by Immigration at the exit. Anyone found without passport and valid visa was taken to IDC. Have been trying to find any news about it but so far it's all quiet.

Anyone know what's going on? Are the authorities trying to kill what little tourist interest there still are?

This Thread Needs To Be Moved To A Bigger Forum For Wider Dissemination...

This is bigger news item I believe... I've not heard of any of these raids previously and I'm sorry that Pattaya Fox or someone else with prior knowledge of similar occurrences hadn't had a thread on it earlier.

This is something people should be told of and made aware of that can happen. Indeed, people don't always have the papers on them. Can you explain more about the title's name? Where is Nirun Village. Is it an apartment building or hotel? What constitutes a typical resident there?

Regarding the high number, to me, involving 50 Police Officers and "farangs"? Were they the Volunteer Farang Tourist Police? Were the Police from Imm. or City?

As to the philosophy of the situation, I'd side with the OP. There's an untold number of civil rights concerns, among them are probable cause... or the obvious lack thereof. Another one being this is, after all, Thailand and any assorted number of things at any assorted time and place can sour, even when it's not justified.

Going to IDC? What happens to those without a passport on them? Detention until the passport is presented in person? Fined? What are the numbers of foreigners that were taken there in this operation (great photo, btw buriamboy :o ) How many still remain for whatever reason?

first they came for the Jews...
Strong words... but ok, I'll buy into that. This is a strong situation... and it's fair-dinkum that strong words are used in the response to it.

I liked the response of the distinguished former Governor of New Mexico Jingthing saying don't answer the door. :D That's actually a very good point. What would they do? How far would they take it? What would Richardson the man himself do in this situation?

There are many good questions here. The Volunteer Farang Tourist Police would be able to answer these questions but they don't want you to know their level of involvment with this incident. They also don't want you to know who they are. That's why the questions are not being answered here on TV.If you are a VTP or have an association with these people you won't have any visa problems, or civil rights concerns.

And Maybe you fit my post?

There are many things wrong with Thailand and if I were a native Thai I would take up the cause, I am not however and I choose to be here because the things I like out number the things I disslike. One of the things I disslike is the low life farrang element, as this is a farrang forum I do not feel unjustified in having a say about it here.

I have been here long enough to see a vast change in the attitude of Thai people towards the farrang community and this is very easily explained by the influx of undesireables.

Did you actually come up with your own signature line or was it free in a Christmas Cracker?

PS. it's Buakao, not Bukhow

Does "DOH" ring any bells Homer. If the Thai Police start stopping people leaving you will be the first one I apologise to.

When you are sickened and disgusted at what is quoted by unknowns on a forum, how do you deal with real life ?
