Popular Post Golden Triangle
I've never been one to overly worry or concern myself with stuff that was beyond my control, but this is now becoming a real cause for concern, I believe it was @smedlywho commented on the super spreader event at one of the vaccination centres, can you imagine the chaos to come if one or two carriers of the delta variant turn up at these locations ? I have checked with my friends, with local hospitals & comments made on here with regard to Chonburi province, primarily the Pattaya area, not a vaccine in sight, and before someone says I can go home, at the moment that is neither a viable or realistic choice I'm afraid. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before us expats can form an orderly queue and get jabbed with the vaccine of our choosing, I don't have any faith in this faux government sorting that out though. Popular Post smedly
what I can't figure out is the lack of support for the people Thailand reports it has massive foreign reserves (could be argued more than it should) but refuse to offer "ALL" of the people a standard welfare subsidy of XX per week to at least feed them, they come up with this BS offering soft loans etc why are they holding back ? This government are to blame for this massive cluster - what is wrong with them, now they are talking about having an early election which I have no doubt will be postal only ha ha How much longer will the Thai people put up with this ?

Constant flat numbers in a range just stink. Absolutely... should be moving up or down but remains flat.

Partenavia
The Delta variant (Indian) spreads like wildfire, as can be seen in the UK now, however, with the majority of the population vaccinated it is not resulting in hospitalizations. You had better hope the same doesn't happen in Thailand, and that it is brought under control. With the vast majority not vaccinated there is the potential to end up like India, and impossible to hide.

Popular Post jingjai9
The narrative that Thailand might re-open and this sandbox talk is most certainly stretched and tired. Reading such stories every day leaves me with the impression that tourists are just ready to bust down the doors to get into the country and they will endure any type of restrictions to enter. However, the government is choosey: only wealthier tourists need apply. ON the other hand, COVID numbers do not appear to be decreasing and the government seems to be of the mind that their will to open the country is stronger than the virus and its variants. They may be able to bully the people, but the virus is another issue. The government appears to be treading in a quagmire with little control over their next step. Am I off in my own dream or shouldn't the government be trying to combat and prevail over the pandemic as its first priority and then think about re-opening the country? In Europe and North America I believe the vaccination rate had to be over 50% before a degree of safety was reached and places could re-open without fear of wide-spread clusters and increased positive cases . I do not believe Thailand is even over 20% vaccinated. So what do they expect will happen if they re-open by July 1st or October 1st if there is no change in case numbers or the vaccination rate is still dismally low?

Popular Post Bkk Brian
Late check in today. Looks like they did a tad more testing yesterday, no worries, whoever was responsible for that will get their hands slapped and it'll all be back to normal tomorrow. ???? Seriously though this looks to me like just the start of this third wave, very worrying. Rolling 7 day average (up to 17th June only) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases. https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand 1
Popular Post ThailandRyan
The long third wave is trending into a longer piece of string that continues on and on and is going on much longer than many had ever thought it would go. However, there are a few of us who have been pretty much steadfast in our beliefs that they can not get ahead if this if tge do not expand testing and be proactive instead of reactive. To see Huay Kwang having cases again tells me that the virus was never stopped there. What about Khlong Toei, that story just faded away..... Instead of bouncing around 2k community cases day in day out, it rose to bouncing around 2.5k for a while and now it seems to be bouncing around 3k. IF it is due to the delta variant, the omens don’t look good. increasing cases, loosening of restrictions, low vaccinations, a populace that is being fed a steady diet of propaganda based on “everything is ok now, lets focus on getting tourists back so as to make some money”. it’s not such a good recipe. Thailand is absolutely dicing with death in terms of its tourist industry. Start getting put on red lists by other countries and tourism stays at zero and the decision of when to kick start tourism is taken from you. Once on a red list, I don’t imagine that it’s easy to get taken off. this country is totally risking everything. It’s bewildering to watch. Probably the best explained post I've read on the risks facing Thailand at the moment, well put!! 3

Borders shut/ASQ when Thailand didn’t have many cases. Other countries tourists now ready for travel in Q3’21 and Thailand will be red-listed for COVID for the rest of the year. (Perhaps they already suspect this, hence the Phuket sandbox…) All stemming, IMHO, from a ridiculous vaccine policy. It was evident from Q3 last year that comprehensive vaccination was the only way to get a country open to tourists again. Think of those billions of $ already lost, and about to be lost. Totally idiotic not to more widely invest in a range of vaccines. What were the motivations for the decision on solely using AZ/SB ? Ignorance ? Pride ? All inexcusable… Greed.
