Pattaya tourism and business sector tell government “Let us open the city fully, give us the Covid-19 vaccines. Enough is Enough.”

Eight major business and tourism associations in Pattaya stated today that they have met recently with the Minister of Tourism, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, and have stated that they want to be able to open to foreign tourists (and domestic tourists) in August and that vaccines must be prioritized for Pattaya.

Mr. Boonanan Pattanasin, president of the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association, revealed the recent meetings and discussions to the local Pattaya press this morning.

It was clear that city business leaders, approaching three months of closures that have shuttered the cities entertainment and tourism industry and crippled most other sectors, were stepping up pressure on leaders to deliver. In the past fifteen months, Pattaya, dependent on tourism for about 80% of their GDP, the 19th most visited city in the world in 2019, and highly reliant on the entertainment sector, has struggled heavily, perhaps only topped by Koh Samui and Phuket in terms of economic and infrastructure damage to their tourism industry.

Thailand is a minimum of 6 months behind the UK. In the UK we are still in semi lockdown and travel banned.

This guy needs to prepare for ATLEAST another year of this ridiculous situation, if not two.

Personally I agree with him - open up to everyone now.

It was reported 81 million jobs had been lost on Asia Pacific by December 2020 due to covid.

So, we have to be looking at about 200 million jobs plus lost world wide due to covid.

The total destruction of the world economy just does not add up for the amount of deaths

It's a bit me, me, me. Many cities and provinces have valid claims for more vaccines but it seems that Bangkok and Phuket head the queue so everyone else must wait.

This comment makes one wonder if the government (USA and others) would take the same steps again if another pandemic were to appear.

I kind of doubt it.

Take your time, hurry up

We have a chicken or egg theory here. Vaccines or money? It's not our choice but you just know money will always win.

Every province sells both. People can't survive on fear, panic, false promises and BS without assistance/support. They need income to buy a thing called food.

It's time to reopen. Past time. Should never have shut it down.

All for places re-opening, but the problem is that people just DO NOT FOLLOW set procedures for social distancing etc.  After the last lockdown, when my local pub re-opened it was only a few days before all the "no-sitting" seats were being used, people were not checking temperature when going in (and no one checking this either) and not a lot of hand sanitiser being used.

I kinda get it tho, it's been a long old grind......locals in my manor were drinking under the make shift gazebos out front and low and behold, a week before the pubs fully opened indoors, they were all in there anyway 7 days prior.........................

Do you think that maybe the government is deliberately withholding support for Pattaya as part of it's drive to kill it off as a sex tourism mecca?

According to the WHO:
Temperature screening alone, at exit or entry, is not an effective way to stop international spread, since infected individuals may be in incubation period, may not express apparent symptoms early on in the course of the disease, or may dissimulate fever through the use of antipyretics;

It is an outward "feel good" method of making it look like something is being done.  Similar to not allowing NAIL CLIPPERS on airplanes.

...so who do you think in their right mind would want to come here..it is not safe..and wont be for quite a few years.

Totally behind this plan but how to stop non vaccinated locals coming or vaccinated tourists leaving ?

So not including Phuket, Bangkok, Hua Hin,  etc... probably more than 1%.

What is irritating is Phuket seems to be well supported in its vaccination efforts, but news of the progress in Pattaya is limited, and I suspect suppressed, because it isn't happening to any great degree.

The possibility exists.

There is nothing to withhold , no stocks of vaccine. AZ so far behind that it’s beyond joke but because it’s ownership nothing can be said by anyone

I would guess 2 factors

1. Phuket is an island , easy to control

2. population size.

Pattaya can not be sealed off, best they can do is limit movement to a point.

I forwarded your post to the Chinese govt...it made them reconsider their COVID 19 position.  They have now decided to sell Sinovac to any country at a 10% discount.   Before reading your post it was only select countries with a 5% discount.

The UK is largely vaccinated but still has 10,000 cases a day. Will vaccines have any effect here?

Go and read up about the Treaty of Versailles and the consequences to see how such a stupid idea ends up.
