office chair recommendation?

Go to the big store chains that sell chairs, test them out, find one you like, get the exact price and make and model number and see if Lazada sells it for less (Lazada sells for less 99% of the time). Also stores like Home Pro and Thai Wasadu sell replacement wheels if/when they break.

Back when I owned a internet cafe chairs were a significant part of my routine inspection and as far as fabric goes, there's plenty of places around town that can reupholster worn out material.

IMO, a 2000b chair is ok for short term use, but those 4000b chair are much more comfortable for hours of sitting.

We had an update in another thread earlier this week on exactly the same subject, focusing on the Modernform / U.S. Steelcase chairs sold here that are a very good choice.

yes, I found Modernform in Pattaya, but their chairs are pretty pricey, around 10-12k

if you know of any shops stocking a variety of office chairs in Pattaya, I'd be happy to go, please tell me the addresses

I can find interesting chairs on the internet, but as soon as I look in a local shop, the same chairs cost more than 5000 baht.

Look at HomePro website. They have a large selection of chairs running in many prices,,,,,,,don't know if the stores carry all of the ones on the website.

Herman Miller apparently lasts 4x longer than your average office chair - something to bear in mind. One office manager specified them for that reason as much as comfort as cheaper ones were a false economy.

As for the local cheopo specials, buying these on sale can work out cheapest, but it's not *IF* they are going to break, we know they are going to break, but *HOW* they are going to break, and will it take your nutsack with it when it does?

I guess it's all relative... The 10-12K range you mention is typical for "better" chairs locally for the Thai market.

I paid 20K for the Steelcase Think V2 chair from Modernform that's designed and backed by a U.S. company whose office chairs are rated as among the best in the world in terms of ergonomics, adjustability, quality and after sales support.

The cheaper and smaller Thai chairs sold by Modernform carry a 3 year warranty.  The Steelcase chairs sold by Modernform carry a 12 year warranty.

IMHO, you get what you pay for.  And for someone who's going to spend a lot of time sitting/working in that kind of chair, the one time investment is more than worth it.

I bought a couple of those cheapo Thai market office chairs in past years that came with a ONE year warranty. And while theone suitable model I found fit my body OK and was reasonably comfortable to use, I soon ended up on a merry-go-round of repeatedly having to pay to replace broken casters and non-functioning lift cylinders.

Fortunately, the Thai retailer I bought from, an office furniture specialist company, was pretty good about stocking the replacement parts and coming out to my home to do the needed repairs. But each time I had to pay, and it became a hassle repeatedly having to deal with a broken down chair.

I'm a tall/bigger bodied guy, so for me, having a chair designed and built for western bodies has a value. The Thai chairs I bought originally had no ability to adjust for ergonomics other than raising or lowering the seat. The Steelcase chairs are fully adjustable, arms, seat, etc etc to provide the best fit for the user.

From all the office chair reviews and ratings I read before making a purchase here and finding Modernform as the Thai retailer for Steelcase chairs, Steelcase and Herman Miller repeatedly topped out at the best office chair brands to be had.

And FWIW, the Herman Miller chairs tend to be even more expensive than the Steelcase ones, although the Steelcase models tended to be rated slightly higher than the Herman Miller ones in the ratings I saw.

As said most cheaper chars are not made for 90kg or over and paying a fortune does not insure longevity in my experience with several 20k name brands.  Currently very happy with a 4,500 baht model sold on Lazada which holds position and stands up well and if fails have not lost 20k.  As for repair have gone that route but they have not lasted.  Cheap can even be plastic threads on riser - the chair looked nice and was comfortable for the week it lasted.

Believe that is what I have and very happy with it - much better than much more expensive chairs.  Have had few years now and no issues.  Can not say that about any other chair I have had.

You could look at this brand, they come in 3 different sizes and I have had mine for 4 years with no issues, yes its a little bit of coin, but comfortable as all get out.  I sit in it at my desk working for about 6 to 8 hours every day.

They sell them here in Thailand.

It seems they are a little more expensive than the OP wants to pay.

Apart from that I can confirm they are great. Best chair I ever sit on.

Was this a serious question?

From Pattaya Klang junction on Sukhumvit travelling north within about 600 metres or so you have Index and another furniture outlet next door but don't use the tunnel or you miss them, Boonthavorn (with some upmarket furniture upstairs) and then Home Pro. Turn round and head south and a number of different furniture outlets with one further down that used to specialise in chairs - not sure if still open. Thai Watsadu is on the same side as Makro but further south - you need to go to the Chaiapruek 2? junction and U turn to get there.

Not sure how many open now with the new restrictions?

I don't suppose anyone can recommend a good Office chair can they? My company has decided to buy some rubbish chairs and I value my back/comfort more than spending a bit on a decent chair.

Looking for something that has wheels that roll well , height adjustable, full back/head rest, arm rests, black leather, padded, suitable for an office environment, sturdy construction etc. Clearly there are thousands online matching that but thought I would see if anyone has any recommendations based on personal experience.

Apologies if there is an Office Chairs sub-forum that I have missed!

I bought this one and still no regrets great quality and great after service (and long warranty)

(Ps: It is listed as gaming chair, but don't game and only use it as office chair)

Be very carful as most cheaper chairs sold here are for Chinese sized users so if an xxxl (which is really not that big) they may not be very comfortable or safe.   Have found the above mentioned Modena models at a bit over 6k a good value but have minor leather flaking on arm ends after several years use (compress/expand each time sit/get up).  But value much better than the 16-20k units from others that I have used and no need to readjust height from cheap gas cylinder (which had with every other brand).   Still comfortable for all day computer/video sitting.

Leather does not make you sweat, if it makes you sweat, it's likely "pleather".

You are absolutely correct that leather doesn’t make you sweat, however neither does  "pleather".

The reason that they are both sweaty, and they are, is that neither absorbs sweat in the same way that a good fabric chair does or allows sweat to evaporate like a good mesh does.

So if you have the temperature and humidity set to a level where you don’t sweat or sweat minimally (incidentally that is lower if you are using a leather or  "pleather" upholstery) then no problem.

But if you don’t like arctic level AC and your body style is not “Twiggy” then a mesh or mesh & fabric chair is more comfortable and less sweaty.

Always go try the chair ! Stay away from the one's that have wheels  ! I'm 91 k and I've been through 5 of them in 7 years   I got this at Kings for 2.5k.  I like it very much the base is very strong and has thick metal tubing

chair.jpg

This is good advice.  ALL brands always fail at the wheels and then the gas shock.  I would also recommend a fixed chair like the one in this posters photo.  Before he was squeezed out of Thailand due to tightening up of Visa I had a neighbor who had a job spinning up new servers for Phillip Morris (spelling?) the tabacco giant.  He was on 250K USD a year.  He worked from 600 baht fixed kitchen chair.

But to throw in a wild card.  Why do you not ditch the chair on sit on a good quality yoga/gym ball.  I injured my back surfing many years ago and then ditched the chair in favor of a ball.  It is difficult to sit on at first because you have to consciously correct your balance all the time.  But after a while this become reflex.  Every time you correct you exercise your core muscles to build strength.  I promise you it will be the best move you ever make for the ongoing health of your back and abdomen.

Also ditch lazada and use shopee.

The link you posted has lazada listing the Furinbox Cooper for 3990 baht.

Here is the very same chair listed on Shopee for 1490 baht.  There is a saving of 2500 baht right there....you're welcome:

And on Lazada it is 1590 from Index Living Mall so only 100 baht more from another official store.  It is the seller rather than the platform and although I often prefer Shopee often find better price on Lazada recently.

Yes your observations are very astute.  I shop extensively online here.  There used to be a huge gap in favour of prices on Shopee.  Not so much nowdays.  But I find Shopee has a much better range of local stuff of real utility (not just consumer junk from China).  A good example is if I want to buy stainless steel nuts and bolts and similiar hardware.  Or long tail motor parts...or new bearings and armature to repair my grinder.  Shopee also has much better refund system.  Just deposited directly into my registered account.  Lazada requires copies of passport uploaded a while back they required a copy of your bank book as well but I noticed just this week when I requested a refund they have modified (improved?) their system a little.

Hi, my two cents is that I bought an office chair from lazada for 1,600 and it was total garbage (the arms fell off, it creaked, wouldn't recline, the covering ripped). but then I went to that office shop B2S and found a much better quality one for 3,200 reduced from 8,300. Much better quality and they have a whole range of chairs to choose from with free delivery. I definitely recommend going to test a chair first instead of ordering online (but that's just my experience).
