Looking at the latet UK figure https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/  (7 day average).

It shows that the UK has on average about 42 deaths and 45K infections a day.

How come Thailand with 80 deaths only has 11k of infections?

How about the numbers fully vaccinated in UK?

The link you provided shows an average 19 deaths daily and 39,950 positive daily cases average over the week. Not sure where you're getting your numbers from?

Anyway with the high vaccination rates in the UK its impossible to compare this to Thailand as obviously the UK deaths will be far lower as a result.

As I said based on the 7 day average e.g. new infections 322,170 divide by 7 =  about 45k.

Just heard from an exGF that her eldest son who worked at a factory in Nong Khaem tested positive for Covid, and has been shipped to a field hospital.

During the first round of Covid last year it was rare to hear of somebody who knew somebody or even a friend of a friend who had contracted Covid in Thailand. From the daily evidence comprehensively presented and discussed here on TVF, and from reading personal experiences, as well as my own, it is clearly very very different this time.

Stating the obvious I guess but certainly made a lot of us (not all) sit up and be very aware of the situation.

Lerdsin Hospital in Bangkok’s Bang Rak area announced on Tuesday that it was suspending its emergency services and would no longer accept any trauma cases.

The reason for this is that the hospital is overwhelmed by Covid-19 cases, and it does not have enough medical personnel.

The Facebook announcement said emergency services will be reopened once the situation returns to normal.

As of yesterday, July 19, there is a report from Chiangmaidatacenter;  https://www.facebook.com/Chiangmaidatacenter/ stating a 2.2% COVID positivity testing rate in Chiang Mai in a high risk group.  (45 positive out of a 1994 person sample).  The province is screening people entering the province at the bus and train stations, also on the highway entering town where 90 people were tested with 2 positive results.

It is good see some real data concerning positivity rates.  In other Chiang Mai news it appears that the Chiang Mai Provincial Authorities have approved the purchase of 200,000 Moderna doses at a cost of 260 million Thai Baht from the Thai Red Cross Society.  The vaccines are to be administered for free.

Note that 595 positive tests were in prisons, so actual community positive tests were down to 2,097 yesterday, much lower than a few days ago. This drop in testing accounts for the flattening of the growth of the epidemic over the last day.

The government said that it needed to keep ordering more vaccines, a reversal from its previous position that we would produce enough internally, because it is unclear how many AZ vaccines could be made each month inside Thailand.

https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1417379679799898114

AstraZeneca said they would be able to deliver 5-6 million doses per month from now on but it could be less, depending on the production capacity in each month, the government said.

Yes, that is definitely what happens with the delta variant of covid, after a while it just gets tired and decides it's just not worth infecting the other 95% of the population.

Good call sir!

The news comes as Thailand's COVID-19 task force on Monday called on people to follow stricter containment measures, warning that without cooperation record daily infection rates could roughly treble to reach 30,000 under a worst-case scenario

The latest fully vaccinated tally from yesterday showing Sunday's daily update was 3.45 million out of about a 70 million population, so close to 5 percent. Today's update should move the 2 shot number a little higher, though lately they seem to be overwhelmingly focusing on doing first shots first.

I took the number published at 2.5 Million at the top of the thread for the numbers I quoted.

Which one is correct ?, or are we  seeing more smoke and Mirrors.

The single shot number has barely moved at all over the previous 10 Days or so, with a very large focus on the first shot being administered.

Thailand’s government is expediting talks with producers on the development and procurement of second-generation COVID-19 vaccines, which can effectively combat new coronavirus strains.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has approved a plan to purchase 120 million doses of vaccines next year, in addition to the 105.5 million to be acquired this year.

He said the CCSA is seeking cooperation with other countries in the transfer of technology to produce vaccines, including those using the inactivated virus, viral vector and mRNA methods, and is supporting research into a prototype vaccine that is effective in reducing the chances of virus mutations.
