How are we supposed to eat safely?

Featured Replies

I'd heard that shopping malls in Bangkok and surrounding provinces were to be closed.  I'd assumed that didn't apply to restaurants for takeaway.  Just looked at Food Panda.  All the restaurants in local shopping malls have gone.  However, small shophouse restaurants with dubious hygiene and very poor quality ingredients remain available.

Does the government really think that it's helping people by removing the option of healthy, tasty and clean food deliveries? Either we're forced to leave our homes to visit supermarkets, so risking infection, or we're forced to eat dodgy food and potentially suffer the dysentry.

This is lunacy of the highest order.

When you were considering travel locations, you should have selected Spain.

If you're worried, most supermarkets will deliver.

Even 7-11 will do home delivery of a single item.

Get a microwave oven all foods on say a setting between 600 and 900 from 40 secs to 1 minute will kill bacteria.

I've been eating "dodgy" food from cheap establishments for years and never had a problem.

The cheap places have a very quick turnaround of ingredients whereas the more expensive restaurants may store or refrigerate stuff they don't sell for who knows how long.

How long have you been here?

Tesco Lotus, Big C, etc. still deliver groceries. No way to cook? Many healthy, if boring, kinds of food not needing cooking. I've been eating more sandwiches than usual, lately, myself.

A rice cooker can be had for not much, and will cook an amazing variety of foods besides rice.

I was impressed by Tesco delivery when I lived in a fifth floor condo unit. I had had a stroke, and on the day of my delivery the power was out.

The young man schlepped my not small delivery up five flights of stairs.

Tipping isn't part of Thai culture, but the lad did well on that occaision!

Also I take issue with your disparagement of street food, though my wife complained about the number of Flying Rabbit bottles around.????

You can eat well, still.

Perhaps buy a book and "learn how to cook" yourself or get a HOT Thai wifey to cook for you?

I thought you liked home cooking.

I just logged into foodpanda and there are masses of restaurants available in my area. Many really good ones, not street carts or hole in the walls.

I;m pretty sure I have had more dodgy stomachs from ice cubes than food in Thailand.

What ever happened to home cooking?  We buy good quality food and cook it at home, job done.  What's with all the people who can't fend for themselves unless its provided on a plate (excuse the pun) by someone else outside the home, or delivered by motorbike.

Can order some foods delivered from Lazada, Tops, Makro etc.

These are times when it's best to have at least a few emergency foodstuffs at home. e.g. Frozen foods and bread, tinned and/or dried goods.

Can get a small one burner gas ring from most supermarkets if no oven.

Easy to knock up a simple tasty meal if stuck at home, but have some ingredients.

Maybe that's an idea for another thread.

Here's one: Cook some penne pasta. Strain water, mix in a can of tuna and a can of sweet corn. Done.

At times like this it's always best to have plenty of stock in,

and I don't mean toilet rolls, and cook for yourself, today

had pan fried Haddock ,mashed potato , and a sauce of

onions, peppers, tomatoes , celery , tomorrow think I

will make a chicken, yellow curry with potatoes, if you

are afraid of eating at smaller street places, cook yourself

at least you will know what's going into it.

Not everyone can cook at home, at least they should deliver healthy food  in big cities like Bangkok.

Why, probably because they live in a shoe box condo, like a exhibit in a cage. Tough.

Yes. So if anyone is a real lockdown proponent all they have to do is lock themselves inside and shut up about the rest.

I keep 30Kg of Jasmine rice, 5Kg of bread flour and at least 3Kg of spaghetti in reserve. Now, if only I could buy booze on the internet, I'd never need to go out.

Perish the thought one could buy fresh ingredients and prepare and cook a simple meal.

Lots of options for humans to eat.

We all know and I’m sure sympathize with you on this problem of not being able to obtain Mall food….but I’m more interested in what your “second biggest problem” is?!

Even easier. Try cold soaking. Just put pasta in cold water and leave it overnight. Saves energy too. ????
