SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Norwegian telecoms operator Telenor Group said on Thursday it was committed to Thailand and its Asia strategy, in response to a Reuters query on whether it would sell its stake in Thailand's Total Access Communication Pcl.

Shares in the Thai telecoms operator were up 13.3% in strong volume on Thursday following market talk regarding the potential move, and held on its gains following Telenor's comments.

In an emailed statement, Telenor added that it does not comment on rumours or speculation in the market.

Telenor announced they were exiting Myanmar earlier this month. Various reasons were mentioned.

This may have prompted the talk here?

The regime here is getting much, much, much more aggressive re: criticism. Stricter enforcement of The Emergency Decree (C)VID) was gazetted yesterday re: "undermining the government".

DTAC's corporate structure, and their ability to comply with laws elsewhere may mean they can't comply with the regime's requests here for info on their customer's activities on-line? Or their "looking the other way" when the regime uses certain surveillance techniques.

Will be interesting to see who gets in on any purchase here. One assumes off-shore corporations, and other cut-outs would be used, to avoid the weak light of the NACC?
