New COVID-19 infections and deaths are expected to drop and the pandemic situation in Thailand brought under control in the next two weeks, if the latest semi-lockdown measures, now imposed in 29 provinces, and extended, are 5% more effective in curbing the continued spread of the disease, said Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr. Kiatiphum Wongrajit today (Monday).

If the effectiveness of lockdown restrictions is increased by 5%, to 25%, in conjunction with increased vaccinations of high-risk groups, such as the elderly, Dr. Kiatiphum said that he believes the number of daily new infections and deaths will drop substantially.

He asked for full cooperation from all sectors of society to make the latest semi-lockdown restrictions successful in achieving the 25% effectiveness target, especially by staying at home and going out only when absolutely necessary.

Nice picture. But beaches have to remain closed!

  • Mass vaccinations won't have any effect in two weeks unless they can get 30 million AZ done tomorrow. It takes two weeks minimum for vaccine to take effect and then you need two four weeks apart. Thin

How is the effectiveness going to be increased with relaxation of some of the restrictions while failing to ensure the current ones including travel are not enforced.  These folks seem to believe in miracles.

the the last week mathematical simulation pointed pick of this wave to 14-29.9 with 400-500 daily deaths

Farcical!!!

The inter province travel was possible with previous 'restrictions' and nothing has changed..

My dear Dr Kiatiphum, thats not how it works otherwise Delta would not have been a major problem in all the other countries that were infected before Thailand

Another guy who needs a calculator for 3+4...

Reported post and responses to it removed.

Oink flap, oink flap, oink flap.

It would be better that all the people and so called doctors who tell this kind of stories will be fired if the situation will not improve or worsens. Than we can get rid of TAT fairy tales too and many more.

If the lockdown. Is enforced in conjunction with the mass vaccinations the curve could begin to turn over a period.

2 weeks sounds a tad optimistic but only time will tell depending on how rigorous it is upheld and how near they get to the million/day.

But that's the problem - they wont be able to vaccinate enough in just 2 weeks to make any difference whatsoever !

Even if they managed 10 million of the most vulnerable and elderly it would make a difference.

They’ve only got 10 million vaccine doses for the whole of August ordered. Not likely to manage the 1 million a day you mentioned as a target.

Oh right so you believe these numbers. ???? I thought they lied about everything.  Pic and mix time.

They need to do whatever they have asap. But it will have minimal effect if the lockdown is not managed.

My Mor Prom app says 14 million received first jab already and 196,000 jabbed today.

We should be congratulating the govt., instead of criticising them at any chance.

Where I live, I can't register with a government hospital, yet foreigners can now. Where are all the 'foreigner are discriminated against brigade" now?

No I don't believe they can do I million a day but that topic is here from a few days ago:

Anutin chimed in that from next month Thailand would be getting 10 million doses of vaccine a month. The authorities would be able to vaccinate a million people a day throughout the country, he said confidently without explaining the obvious discrepancy.

You seriously think 2.5 million jabs in 2 weeks (based in your 196k) will make much difference ? And the majority of those first jabs are potentially 3% sinovac efficacy ! I think 2 weeks  either they will be exactly where they are now , or slightly less cases due to lockdowns - not vaccinations. 2 weeks is too short to judge anything

The lockdown buys you time, the vaccines buy you lives.

If they severely lockdown too early without the vaccinations they will struggle to maintain any kind of discipline long term.

They had the false impression that the last lockdown measures worked cos the problem wasn’t really there in the same degree that the Delta is now.

The trouble Thailand has is culturally a serious lockdown goes against most things they are used to. Stop mixing, stop sharing, stop visiting.

Im loathed to use the UK as a shining example because they got a lot wrong but what they did well was have a hard lockdown to buy enough time to mass vaccinate to attain max gains.

Is Thailand able or willing to stop people travelling to work (apart from essential workers) and work from home, close down all essential retail, stop travel, close all indoor social contact such as gyms.

People got paid to stay at home and although in the main it was well observed there were still issues with some elements. One of these problems was in largely Asian communities with large families.

Whatever measures Thailand takes I can’t see it being as effective as the likes of the UK which makes the vaccine rollout all the more important. .

Useless restrictions, all they do is prolonging the agony.

They had a whole year to buy vaccines and vaccinate the population but they just wasted time bragging about how good they were to stop the pandemic.

I thought you had a British passport which would put you as a foreigner. Or does it only work when it suits you.

now including China it seems, so whatever discussions had gone on before with China about October Tourism start is now on the rocks - Prayut's big plan is stuffed.

As for the OP - I have no idea what it even means - what is 20% compliance - is he saying that 80% of people are not following the rules - what exact rules are they breaking - the only evicence of rule breaking that I see are at vaccination and testing centers which are all organised by officials

The Thais are ever optimists. It you watch media from pretty much all the neighbor countries, they are consistent and far more realistic, acknowledging the serious state and how long it will take to make any meaningful improvements.

Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore are all examples.

Agree. What a fall from grace! From almost first to going toward last.

Only one comment, being able to register does not mean one will be able to get vaccinated any time soon - Yes I am one of those people
