!4000/15000 tourists so far, they just can't help tell it straight, always padding the figures somehow it seems.

Nobody wants to see tourism here fail you wealthy dumb dumb, just state the facts.

Stating the facts is impossible as this could result in loss of face, which is x10 worse than Covid and even death itself.

Never going to happen.

To protect the people.

To let potential tourists know that it's safe to come.

That's it, vaccines, or don't bother forecasting anything.

I love Thailand, I live here.  But if I was still living in my home country, I would not come at the moment.

Who knows how much longer we will have to witness this house of cards being held up with spit?

I always wondered, who put this gentleman into this position in the first place. Others of his calibre usually work as MCs and entertainers.

We all know that tourism was nosediving much before Covid-19, Corona and the like; latter just seriously sped up the clarity that Thailand has lost it.

Competition had not been sleeping over the last 30 years, visitors to Burma/Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia could tell lovely stories with glooming eyes of nice(r)  welcome, cheap(er) pricing for the same if not better product, less rip-off, no endless confusion on all those funny visa types, no bureaucracy left, right and centre and nobody calling tourists "get out", "dirty farang", "aliens" etc.

So it would be an excellent start to redefine the product, train the service providers to PROVIDE a service and not only rip-off, focus on quality tourism which has little to do with the avalanches from i.e. China with their zero-dollar-business. Thailand can do much better than girlie bars, boy zones and soapies to no end.

I fear though that nothing whatsoever has been learnt except a minister with crocodile tears in his eyes blaming a medical impact which came much later than the declining demand.

How do ya like them apples !! ????????????

Nepotism, corruption leads to incompetence and, ultimately, death.

The problem is not the virus, the problem is insane entry requirements. Other countries with more cases have been receiving millions of tourists. Like Turkey.

Both are . The virus did make all the rules happening . Thai elite wanted lot of the rules already , but the virus made the rules going on without a problem and tbh , in the earlier days they were correct . Now it is a different situation , but due to the lack of vaccination in Thailand , it is still a serious problem to welcome tourists .

Right now , the country is in no state for tourism .

The thing is , what happens next , how long will rules stay ? Rules like right now , forget tourism . But let's get the problems fixed which are there now , which is vaccinating the population , get the outbreak under control and lets see what happens after .

Dies this guy think that people were actually taking seriously the nonsense he was spouting earlier?

And his wife is the wealthiest MP.

But gotta ask how he did so well given his apparent lack of, well just about about everything.

Am guessing old money, inherited, part of the "network".

Probably buying and selling, he buys for 100 Baht and sells for 200 Baht and lives from this 10% profit. ????

You failed miserable, and now the nation knows the benefits of appointments based on merit, and the hazards of appointing someone inexperience, not clever, and not creative, such as you, based on cronyism. You will all use Covid as a convenient excuse. But, we know that is alot of nonsense. Sure, Covid is a factor. But the way you guys approached it, the severe incompetence you brought to the table, the astonishing failure of your vaccination program, and the extreme timidity you guys are showing with regard to re-opening to tourism, are far larger factors. You have failed miserably. Just admit it, and be a man. Resign now.

And talk to us about the sacrifices you fools are willing to make, to get tourism back. It is not magic. You will not open your doors and have millions pouring in again. Get that? When you kick an animal that is already ill enough times, it eventually dies. Your industry is dying. You have sabotaged it to no end. And this started long before Covid, so stop with the excuses. Real men take responsibility for their mistakes. Punks, juveniles, and men with undeveloped emotional natures refuse to take responsibility for anything, and it makes them look like more of a fool.

The very first thing would be to repeal the anti foreign wine bill, that was passed by a few very corrupt senators way back when, to protect an anemic local wine industry. They are losing billions of dollars a year in revenue, that would be had from an 80% or 100% wine duty, instead of 365%. The five star hotels would have major wine events, and the entire industry would flourish here. Billions earned, and alot of jobs, you fool.

Thailand keeps droning on and on and on, about how they want wealthy tourists. Again, what sacrifices are you willing to make? Rich tourists like to spend money when they travel. And they cannot do that here, as they do not like getting taken for a ride. Most wealthy people are smart with their money. Thailand could be making a fortune on a 25% luxury tax, instead of the 100% of more, which discourages most people from buying. How many people do you see in the luxury stores here? They are almost always completely empty. Inane. Beyond inane.

The most common complaints I have heard from wealthy friends who visit, is that we will never return to Thailand, because the wife cannot shop. She refuses to get taken for a ride, and will not spend $12,500 on the new handbag she has her eyes on, as it is $4,500 at home, and elsewhere. Rich people tend to be savvy and smart. The Thai authorities continue to insist, based on their policies, that these people are dumb. Go ahead. Continue with your nonsense. You might see 3-5 million tourists a year, five years from now. Maybe. Basically, the tourism industry here has died. Not for now, but long term.

"Admits targets won't be met" - this guy is a frigging genius, Thailand needs a lot more like him (not)......

In case I missed it overnight has he done the honorable thing and resigned and returned the salary as the tourists fail to appear.

It boggles the mind, to even consider the notion of anyone in this administration ever taking responsibility for anything! Much less admit defeat, admit that they are totally incapable, and in totally over their heads, and resign. It takes a real man to do that, and I do not think there is a real man in this class of fools, and substandard human beings.

The covid system and testing guidelines are well studied to be a never-ending charade.. lockdowns do absolutely nothing.

It appears that this is the case here. Shutdowns on a major scale, yet the numbers keep climbing. Millions of lives are being devastated by this juvenile fear mongering foolishness. There is alot more here than meets the eye. Very little of it makes any sense, and very little of it seems to have any connection with science.

Oh dear, another Thai minister shooting off his mouth, making impossible promises and then blaming everybody and their uncle, but never themselves. And it’s really very simple: this cabinet - Prayuth and Anutin in particular - are to blame for the huge mess that Thailand is in right now, period!

Blame and use Covid as an excuse to profit off the pain and death of others, your greed and stupidity grow a spine, and take responsibility for being such a screw up. Resign or grow a spine !

I give it a few more months at best before the system collapses in on itself and the current government along with Health Minister aka With No Degree LOSER! gets his butt kicked out of office. They have used Covid as a money making scam since day one. The common Thais were and have been totally ignored and used as pawns in the process. And always remember the Thai insurances companies and their direct connections to government are much to blame. But hey knock yourself out those desperate and stupid keep giving them your money.

I bought tickets on Etihad flight couple of months ago.

When i bought it i was first to call a shot. All others sit were not taken.

Few weeks ago some pair took two seats and that's it since then.

For now there are only 5 sits taken in a whole plane. I never seen anything like this. And thats a november "high season" plane.

What did you expect , people lining up for travel ?

November might have been start for high season before2020 , but in reality , as long as i visit Thailand ( and i was always there in November ) it was always a very very quiet month . But but but ... people are wanting to come to holiday .... ok agreed , we do not come 1st day which is supposed to be easier then before and beside that , like somebody mentioned in another topic , it takes planning . I hope to come in January now , and i watch this month at least before i make any decision .

Besides that , you still going long way travel , long way travel is something daring in these times , so forget about 99% of families . And behind that , do not forget that nightlife is closed , so not fun to be look forward to even if you want to . Experienced people to Thailand still want to come , so surely some more people will come , and it wont be a complete failure , but do not expect even 20% of the visits of 2019 . Thinking more , there's the difficulty travel , less flights , more rules , many things to think about .... .... .... it ain't easy , even if you want to come , even if the entry rules have been down to manageable lvls .

People need to realize the world right now isn't the world of 2019 , even if we want to . Long haul travel right now is something not for weak hearth people . It is people with a long bond to that country , they should give them a livelong visa , because they want to go that extra mileage . I know it won't happen , but still if you think about it ...
